Chief Physician Wanted for Ward S7 and S8 at the Department of General Psychiatry, Aalborg University Hospital, Aalborg

Do you want to set the professional and strategic direction for the treatment of affective disorders? Are you passionate about evidence-based psychiatry, clinical leadership and a strong multidisciplinary working environment? Then you may be our new Chief Consultant (leading physician).

We are looking for a visionary and clinically grounded specialist in psychiatry for our two affective ward S7 and S8, both specialized open ward units where we primarily treat patients with depression and bipolar disorder.

About the job

As Chief Consultant you will be responsible for the medical leadership of the area, which means, among other things, that you will have a special role in supervision and guidance of the younger doctors in the wards. In addition, you will share responsibility for the overall operations, goal attainment, research, education and professional development together with the chief nurse and other relevant leaders.

You will play a central role in the professional development of the area in close collaboration with the chief nurses and the Department leadership.

We place a high priority on professional development and therefore, in collaboration with the department's clinical professor and the Unit for Psychiatric Research and the department's other research-active staff, there is ample opportunity to plan research projects.

The department has a well-established research environment within affective disorders, which you are also expected to actively participate in. In addition, the entire department has many junior doctors and students, and you are therefore expected to participate in teaching activities in relation to this.

Finally you will naturally have an important role in the ward wards' internal collaboration with the other wards located at the new university hospital, Hospital City, while outpatient clinics are assembled in a Campus House located on Brandevej – in Aalborg East. The latter is expected to be fully implemented by early 2027.

As Chief Consultant you will also have a particularly close collaboration interface with the other Chief Consultants in the department's other areas as well as the department's education team, including especially the education-responsible consultants.

About you

It is a prerequisite that you are a specialist in psychiatry, have a strong professional profile and wish to work in an exciting position with both clinical and educational activities as well as possibly research. That you thrive in a multidisciplinary field with many colleagues and partners, have good communication skills and are able to structure your daily life in connection with development activities – and of course you are an active team player in a changing daily life.

• Danish authorization as a specialist in psychiatry

• Ability to motivate and provide professional sparring
• Ability to achieve results based on shared direction and coordination

Treatment experience and competencies within affective disorders would be an advantage.

Psychiatry in the North Jutland Region is organizationally part of Aalborg University Hospital and comprises five departments: three located in Aalborg (Department of General Psychiatry, Aalborg; Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry; Forensic Psychiatry) and two based in Brønderslev (adult and geriatric psychiatry). The Department of General Psychiatry, Aalborg comprises five areas with open and intensive ward units, a regional psychiatric emergency department with admission and an extensive outpatient function. The professional development in the area is prioritized, and there is attached a clinical professor. Teaching medical students is an integral part of the other activities in the department.

The ward management in the area consists of a Chief Consultant and a Chief Nurse. The Department of General Psychiatry, Aalborg is part of Aalborg University Hospital and is, together with somatic care, relocated to the new university hospital, Hospital City, where the Department Management thus also has a base. The ward management in the area consists of a Chief Consultant and the two Chief Nurses in S7 and S8.

The Outpatient Clinic for Anxiety and Personality Psychiatry as well as the Outpatient Clinic for Affective Disorders (Team Bipolar and Team Depression) remain located at Mølleparkvej until the relocation to the combined Outpatient House on Brandevej in Aalborg East has taken place, expected early 2027. The Outpatient Clinic for Psychoses and the Outpatient Clinic for Young People with Psychoses (OPUS) are already located in premises on Brandevej.

The department's catchment area is the municipalities Aalborg, Rebild, Vesthimmerland and Mariagerfjord for patients at the main function level and in addition the whole North Jutland Region for patients followed at the regional function level.

The practical
