About the job

A position as chief physician or consultant in the Department of Radiology and Scanning, musculoskeletal section, is available for filling on January 1, 2027 or as soon as possible thereafter. A later starting date can be agreed.

Clinic responsibilities and tasks

In the musculoskeletal sector we perform examinations within conventional radiography, CT and MRI scanning. The chief physician/senior consultant participates in the musculoskeletal radiological team and, in collaboration with the other specialists in the section, is responsible for conferences, conventional radiography, CT and MR examinations for the clinical departments affiliated with the musculoskeletal function. The section has a close collaboration with the Orthopedic Clinic and the Rheumatology Center.

Several multidisciplinary conferences are held, including within sarcoma diagnosis and treatment. The section has local, national/ regional, and university functions. Patients are received from across Denmark, the Faroe Islands, and Greenland.

The Department of Radiology and Scanning has about 400 staff and performs approximately 440,000 examinations per year. The department is geographically located at both Blegdamsvej and Glostrup. The department collaborates with all bed-based clinics and outpatient departments at Rigshospitalet Blegdamsvej and Glostrup and has all modalities within conventional radiology, MR, CT and ultrasound.

Rigshospitalet’s vision is “to benefit the individual patient and the health service as a whole.” Specifically, this means that in addition to the highest professional quality regarding the individual examination, we look at the patient’s entire course in the health service. You will be asked for advice not only by colleagues in the department but also by colleagues nationally and internationally.

We have a close collaboration with the other radiology departments in the Region of Zealand in the Robust Imaging in the East program and a collaboration agreement with the Greenland Health Service. In this way we contribute in several places in the Danish health service to solving specialized diagnostic and interventional radiology tasks, both scientifically and organizationally. We work strategically with Remote MRI as a tool to ensure equality and proximity in diagnostics.

At the same time you will also work with the latest techniques, including a 3D weight-bearing X-ray system (EOS) for evaluating scoliosis patients and new CT technology. In 2027/28 Mary Elizabeth’s Hospital for Children opens. In collaboration with the Nuclear Medicine and Pathology departments we have established an AI Center DEPICT ( http://depict.dk ) with about 50 associated researchers and students.

The center is the hub for our AI activities with the use and monitoring of AI in the clinic as well as the development of new techniques.

You do not need to have the answer or solution to everything, but as a team and department we can achieve a lot. We focus on a good working environment where everyone has a responsibility to contribute to open and well-functioning collaboration. There are good opportunities for continued personal and professional development, including research and further education.

The musculoskeletal team is located in the North Wing, where the Diagnostic Neuroradiology Section and Neuroradiology Interventions are also located. The musculoskeletal section maintains close cooperation with Rigshospitalet’s Level 1 Trauma Center and with the clinical departments in the HovedOrtoCentret.

The chief physician or consultant, together with the other doctors in the section, will provide teaching of younger doctors (main residency candidates and introductory doctors), radiographers and students. The section has extensive research collaboration. There are good opportunities for continued personal and professional development, including research and continuing education.
