About the job

Child and Youth Advisor for Family Counseling

Family Counseling in the Center for Children & Youth in Struer Municipality is expanding with a position. Therefore we are looking for a child and youth advisor for a 37-hour position. We would like to welcome you on January 1, 2027, but we are also ready to wait a little longer if you are the right match.

As a child and youth advisor in Family Counseling, you must love working with children and young people. You will join our youth team, where you will primarily work with children and young people aged 12 years and up.

About Family Counseling

Family Counseling is part of Struer Municipality's Center for Children & Youth, which also includes School & Daycare, Health Visitors, PPR and Family Treatment. We all work at the same address and have easy access to contact and collaboration with each other across departments.

Family Counseling consists of 16 child and youth advisors, 2 professional coordinators and 1 department head. We work in 2 teams, a children’s team from 0-11 years and a youth team from 12-17(23) years. We base our approach on the Danish Social Workers Association’s guidance on caseloads in the child area, but we also focus on what the individual tasks regarding a child may require in different phases of case processing.

The team is responsible for solving the tasks that belong to the team. Therefore we do not use the expression “my cases,” because all cases are tasks that we ultimately solve together.

We have developed common expectations for collaboration, communication, how we prioritize collectively, etc. The aim is that everyone knows what is expected of the individual and what one can expect from colleagues. We help each other when work is difficult and share the joy when something succeeds

Our beacon is PUTTING THE RIGHT HELP IN TIME .

This means first and foremost that we take care to understand how children see their own life. We want to understand what the child understands. Children may influence our understanding of their life. We meet and talk with the child and the young person about what they are focused on and talk with them about the support we can give them.

Secondly, it means that we strive to understand the children’s parents and create a good collaboration with them. We do this because, as far as possible, we want to help a child’s problems together with the parents.

Thirdly, we work to ensure progress in cases so that children quickly receive the support they need. We do this by collaborating and helping each other as colleagues in Family Counseling and by giving explicit decision-making authority to the child and youth advisors.

Our procedures and workflows describe, in broad terms, our case handling processes, but we place high value on individuals making concrete assessments themselves and finding individual solutions for each child and family. There is a high degree of autonomy, both professionally and financially.

For professional and legal reasons, we require you as a child and youth advisor to consult with your colleagues and to a large extent reflect on your own practice and how your practice affects the lives of the children you work with. We are working to further qualify our social-professional assessments, including by systematically relating to the child’s perspective and viewpoint directly in the assessments.

We expect

As a child and youth advisor in Struer Municipality, you work systematically and with an overview of the children and families you are responsible for. Our joint ambition is that children thrive, develop, and participate in communities. In short: THE SOUND OF HAPPY CHILDREN.

We expect the following from you

You are educated as a social worker – with or without experience.

You are willing to learn if you cannot do everything yet, as we seek.

You enjoy meeting children and have the ability to listen and understand in the meeting with them.

You are so competent that you can ask others for help or admit that you have made an incorrect assessment.

You express yourself in writing so that it is easy for children and parents to read.

You are focused on solving our core task in the right time, so you plan and complete your tasks within the deadline or earlier if the child needs it.

You are able to work independently and prioritize your tasks, where both professional considerations and the department’s overall task solving are taken into account.

We offer

A group of colleagues – some with many years of experience and some with only a few years – who are dedicated to providing the right help to children in time, but who also take care of each other and laugh together.

A thorough introduction and training tailored to the individual. We want you to both be and feel competent in your tasks. We want you to have a broad, well-founded professional expertise.

You will receive close coaching from a professional coordinator and support to continuously develop your professional skills.

We protect our own health because we do not want to get sick from our work. Management and colleagues take responsibility for the working environment.

Open-plan office with direct access to colleagues and partners in the Center for Children & Youth.
