Church sexton in Randers

A position as a church sexton at Sankt Andreas Church in Randers is available as of 1 December 2026.

The position is 25 hours per week.

We seek a flexible, approachable and diligent church sexton who will feel at home in a church with a "high ceiling". We have a tradition of and place emphasis on good collaboration among the staff to run the church.

Your tasks as a church sexton at Sankt Andreas Church

• Preparation in connection with services and church ceremonies.
• Reception of churchgoers, distribution of hymnbooks etc.
• Assistance during church service, adjusting sound equipment, distribution of communion etc.
• Preparation for and cleanup after church coffee.
• Setting up tables, chairs and podiums for events, song cafe, Monday club, courses etc.
• Tidying and cleaning of the church's and the parish house's premises.
• Maintenance of outdoor areas, lawn mowing, hedge trimming etc. Only minor winter duties.
• Minor handyman tasks.
• Purchases for events as well as daily use, e.g. cleaning products.
• Waste management, e.g. driving to the recycling station.

We are looking for a church sexton who

• is positive and approachable, and meets those around them with a smile and an open mind.
• is good at listening, communicates clearly and respectfully.
• thrives in a role where you are often the first person the congregation meets in the church.
• is prepared to work at times when others are off - evenings and weekends.
• can work independently and can collaborate with the church's other staff.
• has some knowledge of the Church of Denmark.
• has the strength to move tables, chairs and similar items.
• has technical savvy and practical hands-on skills.
• has a sense of order and likes to keep things neat both inside and outside.
• has a category B driving license, a standard car, and is willing to use their own car for work.

Sankt Andreas Church is located in northern Randers and was consecrated in 1971. The parish has 5,507 inhabitants and 3,285 members of the Church of Denmark. In the parish, about 40% of residents are of a different ethnic origin than Danish. We have a tradition of diaconal work and events with room for everyone. Thus there is a wide range of different users of our parish house - Andreashuset - both members and non-members of the Church of Denmark.

At Sankt Andreas Church you will work with a church sexton colleague, two parish clerks/daily leaders, two organists, a parish deacon and two priests. In addition the parish council and a number of volunteers are present at the church.

The appointment is made by Sankt Andreas Parish Council located at Hadsundvej 81, 8930 Randers NØ.

The appointment is covered by the Common Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and Public Employees Organizations (OAO-S) and the Collective Agreement for church functionaries with core tasks as church sexton or gravedigger concluded between the Ministry of Ecclesiastical Affairs and the Danish Church Sexton Association and the associated protocol for church sextons. Current civil-service employed church sextons have the right to retain their civil-service status upon appointment with direct transfer. In that case a classification of the position must take place.

It is a condition that the mandatory 5 weeks of training for church sextons is completed within 2 years after the start of the appointment.

The annual salary is within the range 324,667 DKK - 408,841 DKK (current prices).

There is no obligation to be on call for the position.

OK allowance of 1,401 DKK (current prices).

Parish Council's proposed salary level is 230,000 DKK for a 25-hour appointment (current prices). An agreement on placement in the salary range is to be made between the parish council and the Danish Church Sexton Association.

Salary and OK allowance are quotaed in accordance with the appointment fraction of the position.
