About the job

Valdemarskolen

At Valde we don’t believe that learning only happens when everyone sits quietly with their nose in a book. We believe that children learn in many ways – with the head, the body, the heart and one another.

Therefore, Valdemarskolen is a school in motion. Both literally and figuratively. We have well-being and movement as an independent subject on the timetable, and we work purposefully to create a varied school day where academic learning, social development, motor skills and physical activity go hand in hand. This also applies in our SFO, which works closely with the primary grades.

Now we just need you!

We are looking for a teacher with a Danish subject specialization who would like to become part of our community and help create good school days for the children.

Who are we really at Valde?

We are the town’s oldest school – with a lot of history and a future-oriented outlook. We have students from 0th to 6th grade, are a four-stream school and have around 550 pupils.

We are large enough to have exciting academic communities and good opportunities for collaboration – and at the same time we work purposefully to preserve the closeness and clarity that make children and adults know each other.

Our main task is to create learning and formation so that the children gain courage for life and are equipped to take an active part in the communities and society they are part of.

We are in positive development with increasing student numbers, good academic progression and well-being measures above both municipal and national averages. We are happy about that – but we will not rest on our laurels. We want to get a little better all the time.

We believe in development with direction – and that there should also be room to delve in when something truly has to be learned.

What is it like to work with us?

We organize ourselves into fixed year-team groups where collaboration is not just something stated in a value base, but something we use in everyday life.

We work with several theme-based weeks and subject days that provide space for the team to plan a school day that fits the children in the group and the learning objectives we work with. This enables creative thinking, trying new paths and creating variation in teaching. In addition, there are fixed co-teaching hours for each year group.

We have a particular focus on the collaboration between the early years and the SFO because the children's day hangs together – even when the clock strikes 14:00.

And we are committed to creating strong children’s communities, where all children feel that they belong, are met with respect, and have the opportunity to succeed.

You will be part of a strong year-team in the 2nd year as a co-teacher for a 2nd class.

Who do we hope you are?

We’re not looking for a superhero who can do everything from day one. But we hope you can recognise yourself in some of the following:

  • You meet the children where they are. You are curious about what lies behind their actions and look for opportunities rather than limitations.
  • You believe in the children. With us we work on the premise: Children do the best they can.
  • You are clear and inclusive. You can create structure and security, while meeting the children with understanding and awareness of their different needs.
  • You want to develop yourself. You don’t need to have all the answers, but you should be willing to ask questions and try something new.
  • You are willing to involve your body in teaching. Movement should be more than a break from learning – it can also be a way into it.
  • You know that relationships matter. You work consciously with classroom management and know that good relationships and clear boundaries make a difference.
  • You are a team player. You see collaboration with colleagues as a natural and important part of the job – both in the classroom and in the year group.
  • You have humor and a twinkle in your eye. We take our task seriously, but we don’t need to take ourselves too seriously.
  • You are reliable. Children and colleagues must be able to count on you.

Can you tick several of the boxes, and would you like to teach Danish at a school where community, movement, well-being and academic standards go hand in hand? Then we would love to hear from you.
