About the job
Would you like to help make financial management for a completely new agency hang together in practice? As a senior consultant in the finance area at DMI, Maps and Basic Data (Kort og Grunddata) you will play a central role in making daily budget and financial management work securely and well-coordinated – both in the early phases of the merger and in the longer term. You will become part of a strong team of employees that develops the financial management, while ensuring that operations are stable and reliable for leadership.
We offer skilled colleagues, good collaboration and a strong team spirit – and now we need you who want to take responsibility for coordination tasks in everyday work and who enjoy making complex public sector finance work in reality.
A completely new agency The Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI) and the Climate Data Agency (KDS) merge on 1 December into DMI, Maps and Basic Data. We face a large and ambitious task of aligning finances, workflows and systems into a single common financial function that can support our important core tasks of delivering knowledge and data about weather, sea, climate, maps and fundamental data to society.
DMI, Maps and Basic Data will have a complex economy with many revenue sources. We work with appropriations, fees, income from international aviation, income-funded activities and externally funded research projects. These must be translated into budgets that can be followed up on, so there are good opportunities to use and expand your knowledge of public sector financial management.
The finance unit consists, with you, of 18 employees, who broadly work with budget- and accounting tasks, as well as the entire Climate, Energy and Utilities Ministry’s group purchasing function.
What will your task be? As a senior consultant with us you will have a special focus on coordination and quality in the operation of the ongoing budget follow-up, and you will have a daily life close to numbers, colleagues and management.
Concrete tasks that will shape your daily life with us
- Coordination of the fixed processes within budget follow-up and financial management and responsibility for professional tasks related to it
- Professional responsibility for consolidated budget follow-up across the agency’s centres
- Coordination of responding to orders from our many stakeholders, ranging from the department to the professional leaders in the agency
- Function as a financial partner for one or more centres on par with your colleagues in the unit
- Professional responsibility for one or more areas, e.g., externally funded research finance or other central financial areas
- Proactive contribution to merging the economies and financial functions, while maintaining secure operations
- Translating data and analyses into clear and actionable decision proposals for management, centres and the directorate
We currently also have unfilled tasks related to risk management in a broad sense and risk management and compliance in accounting, contacts with the Audit Office etc. They are not central to the position as it is envisioned, but can also come into play if you have experience and interest in one or more of these areas.
What you can contribute with We are looking for you who have solid experience with public sector financial management and thrive in the role of professional coordinator in a busy daily life. You do not need a leadership title to take leadership in the tasks, but you can tie the threads together, follow things through to the end and keep an overview when many stakeholders are involved. You are just as comfortable diving into the numbers as you are engaging in dialogue with board members and managers – and you can do it without (only) speaking in accounting code, both verbally and in writing.
You are curious about others’ areas of expertise, enjoy sharing your knowledge and have a collaborative style that makes it easy for others to make you look good. You see good financial management as something that creates value and direction for the organization – not just numbers in a spreadsheet. And you are comfortable with not everything being perfect yet, as long as we are moving in the right direction together.
We expect that you
- Have a master's degree in economics, social sciences, or similar
- Have several years of relevant experience with financial management, preferably from the state or possibly another public organization
- Have experience with budget planning and budget follow-up in the state, including cross-unit coordination
- Have competencies to take professional responsibility for one or more professional areas in our financial management.
- It is an advantage if you have concrete experience with externally funded research economics under the framework of Grant-funded Research and Grant-funded Activities
- Have experience coordinating orders, preparing directorate approvals, etc.
- Have strong collaboration skills and a desire to be the link between professional centres, the finance unit and the directorate
Why you will be happy working with us With us you will become part of a new team with many experienced professionals, where teamwork and collaboration are a natural part of daily life, and where we help each other when tasks become complex. We are in full swing building a new shared culture in the finance unit, where curiosity, learning and an informal tone with room for humor go hand in hand with high professionalism. We see it as a strength that we are different – both professionally and personally – and you will have room to be yourself as long as you are willing to collaborate and create results together.
There is a lot of work ahead of us to develop and implement the principles of financial management in the new agency. It is both fun and challenging. The work will extend far into 2027 and will certainly need to be continually adapted as we become wiser.
You will take a central role in ensuring the operations of the finance function, where you can set a clear professional mark. There are good opportunities for both professional and personal development, and you will receive ongoing coaching from colleagues and your office head. We offer flexible working conditions and a healthy balance between work and private life.
In the finance unit you will help support that important data about weather, climate and the country’s maps and fundamental data can create value for society as a whole. Your work makes a tangible difference, because it helps us solve our core tasks, make the right priorities and use the shared resources responsibly. Here you will have the opportunity to be close to management and contribute to shaping the framework for a new and strong organization under development.
At DMIKG you can look forward to
- Flexible working day with a 37-hour week including lunch
- Possibility of remote work with regard to task solving
- Committed work environment with focus on collaboration, learning and diversity
- Your daily presence at Sankt Kjelds Plads 11 in Østerbro – close to public transport
You will be employed under the AC collective agreement for academics in the state as a senior consultant.
If you want to know more about the position you can contact Office Manager Henrik Stub by sending a text message to 21 64 29 68, after which he will call back as soon as possible.
At DMI, diversity is an important value for us, as we believe that an inclusive and diverse working environment strengthens task execution. We actively work with diversity and we therefore encourage everyone to apply for the position - regardless of background, identity or way of thinking.
