About the job

Take the plunge now, and help ensure momentum in the establishment of the datacentre-driven defense of the future – a unique greenfield IT environment!

About us

The Armed Forces and NATO face a time-critical and comprehensive digital and operational transformation to meet future challenges. The enterprise-wide Program for Digital and Operational Transformation is therefore building the future digital and datacentre-driven defense in close cooperation with the armed forces operational units.

You will be part of the Digital Backbone department, which is responsible for the concrete establishment of the Defence’s new IT platform. The department must ensure holistic development, governance, standardisation, management and automation of the new Digital Backbone, so that the platform is coherent, secure, interoperable and scalable. It is an IT environment that is unique in size, task and characteristics.

About the position

We are seeking an experienced and visionary section head with high professional standards and solid leadership experience and the courage for a decisive role in establishing our new Digital Backbone. The section is under construction and shall design and implement standardized On-premise Private Cloud solutions and management platforms to support the scalable Digital Backbone.

You will have close collaboration with the program’s capacity manager regarding procurement and initial operation as well as with all other sections of the department in relation to initial and final operational capability. In addition, you will have close cooperation with project managers from the Defence and civilian suppliers on everything from project definitions to operations, maintenance and optimization.

You must plan, organise, implement and evaluate all aspects of establishing the standardized On-premise Private Cloud solutions and management platforms, with particular focus on security, initial operation and automation to support a proactive automated approach to overall operations.

You will gain insight into leadership and governance of complex and intricate tasks, where you must deploy all your technical, IT-professional and managerial competences within an area of great political and operational attention. You will work with the latest technology at the intersection between military technology and military-operational areas on a modern IT workplace.

We guarantee a varied everyday life in an environment with startup spirit, where great responsibility goes hand in hand with significant influence. You will have the opportunity for flexible working hours, personal and professional development, an employer-funded pension scheme and paid lunch.

About you

Your background may be diverse, but we expect you to have solid knowledge of - and experience with - On-premise Private Cloud solutions and management platforms within the framework of large networks. You preferably have an academic degree in a relevant field. Alternatively, you may have a somewhat shorter education but can document strong IT and leadership competencies.

You have experience relevant to the position’s tasks, characteristics and context at a certain scale from environments with a high degree of isolation and stringent requirements to compliance, governance, documentation and control. You can – in large organisations and with large projects and programmes – balance relationships and results as well as development and stability in a politically governed organisation with the task at the centre.

Regardless of background, we expect you to have significant leadership experience that is relevant both to your task and to the department and the programme. You can translate strategies and objectives into actions and results on time within the available resources. You thrive with great responsibility and are persistent in executing in collaboration with many internal and external partners.

We place a high value on professionalism, leadership experience and results, but we are especially interested in your personal competences; both as a colleague and as a manager. You are authentic, can motivate and inspire loyalty, and can communicate clearly in writing and speech with all levels in and outside your own organisation. You can both set direction and ensure that we execute within your area as well as in the department and the programme.

You should expect regular travel to all our locations, and therefore a driving licence (category B) is required.

Conditions of employment

If you are an academic you will be employed in accordance with the current agreement between the Ministry of Finance and a number of academic organisations for academics in the state (Academic Agreement).

If you have a clerical or other relevant education, you will be employed in accordance with the current Common Collective Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and Public Employees Organisations – The Civil Service Area (OAO-S Common Agreement) and the organisation agreement for office workers, laboratory technicians and IT employees.

Depending on your qualifications and competencies, there is a possibility of negotiating additional pay. There is an employer-funded pension scheme attached to the position.

Your daily workplace is in Karup.

As an employee within the Ministry of Defence’s area, you are subject to certain special terms. You must, among other things, be security cleared and maintain the security clearance for the duration of the employment.

As an employee you are obliged to serve outside the country’s borders, including at units in international operations with a view to participating in conflict prevention, peacekeeping, peace enforcement, humanitarian and other similar operations.
