We are seeking a pedagogue who wants to develop their professional knowledge in a unique special area together with dedicated colleagues who provide thorough onboarding.

You don’t need to know about deafblindness or sign language beforehand . Many of us started at the same place. The most important thing is that you are curious and want to use your pedagogical skills in new ways.

With us you have the opportunity to build on your professional knowledge in a highly specialized field where relationships, communication and structure are central tools. We know the field is new for most people. Therefore we have a strong focus on onboarding and professional support:

• structured introduction program with follow-up
• training in forms of communication and deaf-blind specific methods
• close professional sparring in everyday work
• targeted competence development (competence development is a natural and prioritized part of the work with us)

With us it is also part of professionalism to sit with a citizen, be present and at a calm pace understand their input.

Our daily life

You work with young people with congenital deafblindness. For them the world does not come to them, and your role as a pedagogue is to make it accessible. This can be by structuring the day and creating recognizability, guiding through touch and clear communication, translating surroundings, moods and events and supporting citizens in activities, relationships and participation in everyday life.

Some of the citizens with us are mobile, others need support in almost all situations. What they have in common is that they are active people with individual needs, and that your efforts make a noticeable difference.

All citizens have a fixed social-pedagogical day once a week. Here you work with the citizen with individual goals and sub-goals that create value and meaning. You support the development of skills, mastery and active participation in daily life, all on the citizen’s terms.

Social-pedagogical days with citizens, meeting activities and planned team time take place during daytime on weekdays.

Your other hours mainly fall in the period from when the citizens return home from activity and social programs in the mid-afternoon up to 20.00–23.00.

You work every other weekend in day and evening hours. There is an opportunity to accumulate hours in double shifts on both weekdays and weekends. In addition, there is work on certain holidays.

When a citizen experiences insecurity or uncertainty, it may express itself through ritualized behavior, outbursts, self-harm or boundary-crossing communication, both physically and verbally. It requires you to remain calm, analyze the situation professionally and act based on the relationship.

The work is intensive and close, both relationally and practically, but takes place within clear professional frameworks. You will encounter methods such as total communication, deaf-blind specific and hearing loss-specific approaches, resource-focused and neuro-pedagogical approaches, relational pedagogy, low arousal, traffic light, video analysis, sensory stimulation, structure pedagogy as well as ASK – Augmentative and Alternative Communication. Not as theory on paper, but as concrete tools in everyday life.

Documentation and reflection are a natural part of the work and are actively used to develop practice and collaboration in the team. There are also health-related tasks such as medication handling and follow-up on health conditions.

About us

The youth home is located together with Bøgehuset, Planethuset, the Activity and Socialization Offer, and the Treatment Department in the Offer for Children and Adults with Deafblindness and Hearing Loss. We are part of the Area for Communication and Special Pedagogy in the North Jutland Region’s Special Sector. At the youth home, 13 residents live, and we are in total about 40 employees who ensure the residents are in good hands.

Practical

Salary and terms of employment according to the applicable collective agreement for social-pedagogical staff at residential institutions, etc. (3238) concluded with SL.

Application deadline: 13 November 2026. We conduct interviews on an ongoing basis.

Start: 1 January 2027, preferably earlier.

The position: Permanent position of 32 hours per week with the possibility of more hours by agreement.
