A subject-specialist Danish, English and science teacher is sought for Højmarkskolen Specialcenter

As of December 1 – or preferably earlier – we are seeking a subject-specialized teacher in natural science, Danish and English

for our lower secondary division at Højmarkskolen Special Center in Holsted.

Do you have an open mind, and are you able to form good relationships?

Do you have an appreciative approach to students, parents and colleagues?

Do you have strong collaborative skills and see collaboration with other subject groups as a value in your work?

Do you appreciate collegial sparring and close cooperation, where tasks are lifted together and you help each other in a professional work community?

Do you have special education teaching competence/knowledge/experience in teaching students with diagnostic challenges and with the need for guidance and regulatory breaks during the school day?

Do you have experience with test-preparation teaching?

Are you curious and open with a view to continually evaluating, adjusting and developing your teaching in a field where your students’ daily form varies and affects their sense of mastery from day to day?

Do you have teaching competencies in other subjects (e.g., food science and H/D elective subjects)?

Are you open to also teaching in other stages than the upper secondary, if the distribution of subjects requires it?

We are looking for a teacher who can step in as a strong and stable team player. The task currently lies in our youth department, which consists of five special classes with students in grades 7–9.

Our upper secondary students are mixed across diagnoses in their classes, and the classes have communities with each other. The task requires that you, together with your team, are curious and interested in rethinking teaching and habits along the way.

We experience that our students, due to the particular class formations, reach out and more easily find each other crosswise. This does not happen without friction, and it requires that we support and guide each individual along the way – both in teaching and in breaks. The department staff therefore also works broadly to know each other’s students.

At present, we have 46 students in the upper secondary, and in each class there are 9-11 students with different strengths, challenges and mastery strategies in their lives. Each class team also collaborates closely with parents, advisors, PPU and UU-guides regarding the students’ well-being, competencies, goals and further path in the education system.

The primary daily collaboration, however, takes place within the department itself, where one is attached to a large team consisting of both pedagogues and teachers in the department, as well as two class teams. There is close cooperation between teachers and pedagogues, as each class has an attached class pedagogue who follows their class throughout the day.

Brief about Højmarkskolen and the special center

Højmarkskolen is one of Vejen Municipality’s seven upper secondary schools with about 525 students. Attached to Højmarkskolen is one of the municipality’s two special centers.

There is SFO attached to both the general and the special department.

At Højmarkskolen Special Center, around 110 children from across the municipality (1st–10th grade) have been admitted, and there are just over 40 staff with teacher and pedagogue backgrounds. The special center has its own buildings, classrooms and a schoolyard adjacent to the general department but also uses the general department’s subject rooms, preparation rooms and PLC.

The staff in the general and the special center at Højmarkskolen are working to strengthen cross-department collaboration, e.g., in subject teams, and draw on each other’s knowledge and experiences as needed. The special center also serves as a knowledge center for other schools in Vejen Municipality.

New employees at the school must, according to Vejen Municipality’s guidelines, present a private criminal record and provide permission for obtaining a “child protection” certificate
