About the job
Do you want to lead a forensicpsychiatric ward – and help create the framework for both staff well-being and high quality in patient care?
There is a difference between delivering good care – and setting the direction for it. In forensic psychiatry at St. Hans Psychiatric Center it is a managerial task, and we call it the shared professional foundation. As Chief Nurse, your task, in close collaboration with the head physician of the ward, is to translate the shared professional foundation into practice.
Forensic Psychiatric Ward D1
Ward D1 is part of Department R at St. Hans Psychiatric Center, which consists of eight locked inpatient wards, two open wards, as well as outpatient clinics, and works with specialized forensic psychiatric treatment of patients with psychiatric illness who are under a court order for treatment or placement.
D1 is characterized by a high degree of structure and stability in daily life. It provides good conditions for continuity of treatment and the opportunity to work systematically and persistently with the patients’ development. On D1, all patients are women, and they are admitted there for a specially treatment-related reason.
We know our patients very well, and the relationships between patients and staff are an important part of the treatment.
You will lead a very dedicated and experienced group of staff. Several employees have been with the ward since its inception and have extensive knowledge about both the patient group and the ward’s professional approach. They are passionate about the patients and about creating the best possible treatment pathways.
We are a staff group that accepts messages from our leader, but also works best in a dynamic relationship where there is room to debate and listen to each other in professional contexts.
Your role as Chief Nurse
As Chief Nurse you will have a broad leadership role that includes professional leadership, personnel management, operations management, and development of the ward.
Our patients are often severely mentally ill and admitted under legal measures. This places great demands on professionalism, structure and cooperation – and on you as a leader.
As Chief Nurse you will be the driving force in
- maintaining and further developing a strong team where professionalism and well-being go hand in hand
- ensuring high quality in nursing and supporting ongoing professional development
- leading, motivating and developing an experienced and engaged staff group
- creating structure and direction in a daily life with complex tasks
- contributing to the development of the ward and the forensic psychiatric treatment
- taking a lead in interdisciplinary cooperation and contributing to a shared professional direction for patient care
You do not stand alone – you will have an experienced chief physician as management partner, sparring in the management group and a mentor to support your development.
Who are you?
We are looking for a licensed nurse with solid and long-standing experience from psychiatry. It is an advantage if you have experience with forensic psychiatry, the women’s area or similar complex patient groups.
We place emphasis on the following
- have management experience and preferably a relevant leadership education
- have extensive psychiatric experience and a strong nursing professional profile
- have an interest in the women’s area and preferably experience with similar target groups
- understand and have an interest in positive reinforcement and long-term relationship work
- be clear, present and appreciative in your leadership
- can lead an experienced staff group with respect for existing professionalism while being curious about how practice can be further developed
- prioritize personnel management, professional development, and a good working environment
We offer
- a leadership position with a clear mandate and the opportunity to influence the ward’s culture and professional development
- a strong leadership community with sparring and development opportunities
- brand new facilities designed to create safety and rehabilitation for forensic psychiatric patients
- an experienced mentor and an introductory program that matches your competencies
- a leadership job with meaning – where your effort makes a difference for both patients and staff

The position is full-time. Start date: December 1, 2026 or by agreement.
