About the job

Institute of Military Technology at the Defence Academy is seeking an experienced and education-oriented chief engineer to a position as subject area manager and instructor for two technical function training programs at the Naval Officers School.

The position is anchored at the institute and includes development, administration, and coordination of profession-level education in a cross-disciplinary academic and military-professional environment.

Here you will have the opportunity to apply your educational and technical experience and leave a clear mark on the development of future technical officers in the Navy.

About the position

You will have overall responsibility for planning, development, and quality assurance of two technical function training programs. This means ensuring professional direction and coherence and translating technical experience and technological development into targeted teaching.

The work is carried out in collaboration with the Naval Officers School, other institutes at the Defence Academy and external authorities, including the Navy Competence Centres and the Danish Defence Procurement and Materiel Organization as well as civilian education centres.

Teaching and guidance are part of the position. You must be able to convey complex technical issues based on the Navy’s reality and create a learning environment where students develop their ability to analyse, assess and act in technically complex and operational situations. You will also contribute to the development of teaching materials, exercises and exams.

The position entails responsibility for educational administration and coordination within the applicable study regulations. You must be able to work independently and in a structured manner with planning of modules, coordination of teachers and partners, as well as quality assurance of examinations and evaluations.

You will also engage in close dialogue with other subject area managers at the Defence Academy to ensure that the education reflects changes in doctrine, technology and threat landscape.

About us

The Institute of Military Technology is part of the Defence Academy and operates in a cross-disciplinary academic and military-professional environment. We develop and implement education that equips current and future military leaders to understand and apply technology in an operational context.

The institute is characterized by high professionalism, close cooperation between civilian and military staff, and a culture marked by collegial sparring and development-oriented thinking. We collaborate broadly internally and externally to ensure that our education is relevant, current and academically solid.

About you

You are an experienced chief engineer with solid educational and technical background. You have in-depth knowledge of operation, maintenance and technical management and understand the interaction between technology and organization.

You have experience with planning and leading technical areas and are used to prioritizing and collaborating across disciplines. Teaching experience in the natural science area is an advantage, but most important is that you have the desire and ability to translate your practical experience into structured and reflection-based learning.

As a person you have influence and integrity. You create trust and collaboration across organizations and can balance technical needs and organizational frameworks. You communicate clearly in both Danish and English and can professionally represent the institute in relevant professional contexts.

We offer

We offer a position with substantial professional influence in a strong and development-oriented environment. You will have the opportunity to work with education as a central tool in developing the Navy’s technical capacity while maintaining a close link to the maritime reality.

You will become part of an institute with high professionalism, a flat leadership structure and a strong collegial community. There is room here for professional immersion, development and real influence on direction and content.

Terms of employment

The employment is in accordance with the applicable agreement between the Ministry of Taxation, the Agency for Personnel and Competence and the Danish Confederation of Trade Unions regarding civil teachers in the Defence.

Depending on your qualifications and competencies, there is the possibility of negotiating supplements. The position carries an employer-financed pension scheme.

The workplace is in Copenhagen.

As an employee under the Defence Ministry, you are subject to some special terms. You must, among other things, be security cleared and maintain the clearance throughout your employment.

You are obliged as an employee to perform service outside the country’s borders, including at units in international operations with the aim of participating in conflict prevention, peacekeeping, peace-building, humanitarian and other similar operations.

Contact and application

If you want to know more about the position, you are welcome to contact the institute’s head, Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Galasz Nielsen, at phone 4170 3747 or [email protected].

If you have questions about salary or terms of employment, you can contact the HR consultant Pia Knudsen at phone 3266 5783.
