About the job

The Danish Film Institute seeks a new feature film consultant for children and young people

The Film Institute enters a new era with high ambitions for the overall children and youth area. In a time where tech has moved into the child’s bedroom, where content for children and young people undergoes a marked transformation and where dependency design has become a political agenda, the Film Institute's task and responsibility occupy a decisively important place.

In this context we are looking for an engaged feature film consultant who will join the crucial important work. The film consultant will be part of the new B&U-center and takes on an important role in creating the best framework so that Danish children’s and youths' films can stand central in the lives of children and young people going forward.

The film consultant's overarching task is to actively contribute to identifying projects and cultivating talent that can help retain and strengthen Danish film quality, relevance and strong position and esteem both in Denmark and internationally.

Film consultant's main tasks

The film consultant is tasked with handling the final artistic evaluation of applications for film support and to recommend them for approval to the Danish Film Institute's board of directors. There will be applications for script, development and production support for fiction and feature films with children and young people as the target group. The film consultant also has the task of ensuring optimal development of projects receiving support through ongoing dialogue with writer, director and producer.

The film consultant functions as a sparring partner and consultant for the film's driving forces throughout the development and production process.

The film consultant will work in close collaboration with the head of department, producer, launching consultant and project coordinator on production, financial and launch considerations.

The film consultant must furthermore build, maintain and manage contact with the Danish production environment and stay well informed about cultural and societal life with a focus on children and youth culture and children and youths' media habits.

Film consultant's qualifications

The film consultant must have documented experience with and insight into film or TV production for children and young people, especially regarding assessing the potential of incoming applications. In addition, the consultant must have experience in analyzing, maintaining the vision and coaching the manuscript and the project through all its development phases. The film consultant must have particular insight into and experience with children’s and youth culture and media development in the field.

The film consultant must have good written and spoken communication skills and must be able to create a positive and creative atmosphere that gives applicants the best opportunities to develop their idea. Furthermore, the consultant must have the ability and integrity to make decisions that may not always be well received.
