About the job

We have an opening for an exciting position as press chief in one of the central ministries on Slotsholmen. You will help set the political agenda and get the government’s messages effectively through. And you can both handle the classic press work, see opportunities in new media and run a strong press team.

The Ministry of Finance and the Interior seeks an experienced and professionally strong press chief who can lead the ministry’s press work and advise the minister and the ministry’s leadership on the area.

As a ministry we play a central role in the government's work and in the political agenda. The minister is both party leader and part of the government leadership, which gives the press work a special political weight and broad contact surface to both Christiansborg, media and the public.

As press chief you will be responsible for the ministry’s press efforts. You must be able to understand the political situation, spot the good story and translate political messages of different kinds into stories that are seen, heard and understood.

Your tasks You shall among other things

  • advise the minister on press matters and handling of media
  • set direction for proactive press work and ensure that the good stories find their way to the right media – both the traditional and the new
  • ensure good handling of press inquiries and coordinate the ministry’s reactions to current cases
  • prepare and execute press efforts in connection with major political announcements
  • prepare the minister for interviews, press conferences etc.
  • inspire and lead a press team consisting of 4-5 employees
  • coordinate press handling across Slotsholmen and with the minister’s special advisors

You must master the classic press craft, but at the same time be able to think broader than the traditional media. The good story can as well begin in a video on Instagram as in an interview with a nationwide newspaper. You are curious about how new technologies and AI can be used to strengthen and tailor the press effort.

You must be able to assess where and how a message best comes through and use your team so that the minister’s messages are effectively put out beyond the ramp. And you must have an overview and ensure that the press effort is planned and prioritized within the deadline.

You are an experienced press profile We imagine you have several years of experience with political press work – ideally from a ministry, a political organization, interest organization or similar. Experience as a leader is an advantage.

You

  • master the journalistic craft and have a good sense of a good story
  • have political acumen and can quickly identify opportunities and risks in the press
  • can advise a minister with calmness and situational awareness – also when there is pressure
  • have relationships with political journalists and commentators
  • write clearly, precisely and convincingly
  • thrive in a high tempo, unpredictability in daily life and changing agendas

It is expected that you have in-depth knowledge of Christiansborg, the government work and the Danish media landscape.

A central role close to the decisions As press chief you work closely with the minister, special advisers, professional offices and the minister’s secretariat. You will become part of a ministry that stands centrally in the government's work, and where decisions and announcements often have great political significance and broad attention.

Some days are about long-term strategy and planning. Other days it's about quickly reacting to a story that suddenly dominates everything. You must therefore be able to think several moves ahead and act securely when there are only minutes to deadline.

Employment terms Employment takes place under the applicable collective agreement. The position is at senior consultant level and desired to be filled as soon as possible.

The workplace is the Ministry of Finance and the Interior in Copenhagen.

If you want to know more about the position, you are welcome to contact the head of office for MLS Malte Kjems at 23395657 or [email protected].

Send your application and CV no later than Monday 16 November. The position is to be filled as soon as possible.
