Tasks and responsibilities
Are you an expert in artificial intelligence and do you understand the political dimensions necessary to ensure a responsible, safe and innovation-promoting development of the technology? Do you want to help implement the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' strategy for tech diplomacy through close collaboration in Denmark, through the EU and internationally?
There is a global technological race underway, where the development and application of artificial intelligence is crucial for a nation's power, opportunities and influence now and in the future. With the strategy for technological diplomacy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs works from an ambitious and clear vision to promote international technology development for the benefit of Denmark and Europe, which in a safe and responsible manner contributes to solving global challenges.
As the tech diplomacy expert in artificial intelligence and global governance you will be required to work on drawing a Danish and European line regarding handling technology development globally, as well as promoting Danish and European innovation and use of AI. The tech agenda has broad intersections with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' other agendas for security, economic and development policy, and work is therefore conducted both bilaterally, multilaterally and not least through the EU.
The position requires a deep technical understanding of artificial intelligence as well as awareness of the legal and political issues associated with global governance discussions about the technology as well as the interaction with European legislation in the field. The expert conducts ongoing analyses for use across the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the geopolitical power balances across the AI stack and the value chains behind. In addition, it is important to have an appetite for collaboration with other professionally specialized colleagues in the line ministries to elevate the agenda.
As an artificial intelligence specialist in tech diplomacy your main areas of responsibility will be:
- To assist with professional depth, insight, analysis and advice in the field of artificial intelligence, including assessing opportunities and risks of the ongoing development and identifying and promoting Danish and European strengths within artificial intelligence.
- To contribute to the development of policy and ensure solid professional advice to the government on artificial intelligence. Including with a view to global, European and national political dynamics to ensure a responsible, safe and beneficial development of the technology.
- To build a solid international network across experts, companies, states and multilateral organizations.
- To participate in professional international networks on artificial intelligence and to represent Denmark at international meetings and seminars.
Who are you?
We place emphasis on that
- You have extensive experience with artificial intelligence (either in research such as a Ph.D., Post.Doc, lecturer or with expertise developed as an AI developer or from your own AI-based company)
- You have broad knowledge of the international landscape for technology development
- You have an eye for politics and strategy, including understanding the role of technology in societal development and foreign policy aspects of critical technologies and a desire to learn more
- Are a skilled communicator, fluent in writing and speaking Danish and English, and not least comfortable speaking in international forums
- Can take initiative and lead processes.
- Have an international outlook and wish to represent Denmark globally
Language skills
We seek employees with strong language skills in both Danish and English, preferably corresponding to C2 level in Danish and C1 level in English according to The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages . After the employment interviews, selected candidates will be asked to complete an English language test as part of the recruitment process.
