About the job

We are looking for you who thrive in a small staff group with a focus on close collaboration and who are passionate about working with children who have a very extensive support needs

A little about us

Our group arrangement is for children in the age group 6-9 years old. The children have significantly reduced cognitive functions, intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, and they may also have additional diagnoses such as epilepsy.

We are a small specialized group arrangement at a mainstream school, located close to the beach and with good outdoor opportunities in the local area. We are a holistic service that covers both school and after-school care for our pupils. Working hours can be expected to lie between 07:30-16:00 with influence on your own shift plan. In addition, meetings outside normal working hours may occur.

We have 14 pupils, divided into 3 groups, and there are 3-4 fixed staff attached to each group.

We focus on creating a daily life for our children that is based on the individual child’s development level and thereby create a school that suits our pupils, rather than pupils having to fit us. Our pupils do not have a normally developed spoken language, and therefore one of your main tasks, together with your colleagues, is to strengthen communication through AAC (alternative or augmentative communication forms).

The daily life is built around a fixed structure, Low Arousal pedagogy, and activities based on basic ADL (activities of daily living), with a focus on language development and talk competence, as well as physical training, etc. Our primary task is to give our pupils the opportunity to become as capable of living and as self-reliant as possible.

Our professional backgrounds are diverse, and we benefit from each other’s knowledge. We develop goal and action plans collaboratively, just as we are united in working with the pupils’ development, learning, and basic needs.

It is not essential which education you bring. You can be a pedagogue, social and health care assistant (Sosu), or a teacher. The most important is that you want to work with – and ideally have experience with – the target group.

We are looking for you

  • Who sees the child’s strengths, potentials, and development opportunities, even if there are major challenges and the steps forward may seem small at times.
  • Who is not afraid to ask for help and who sees professional sparring as a strength.
  • Who is committed to lifting as a team and sees potential in close collaborative teamwork.
  • Who has education and/or experience in working with autism spectrum disorders and children with significantly reduced cognitive functions.
  • Has knowledge and/or experience with AAC and/or ADL.
  • Can develop action plans and is fluent in written and spoken Danish.
  • Who thrives in a close professional and social collaboration in a small staff group.

We offer

  • A strong staff team that looks after one another.
  • An employer that sees the sense of community as a strength.
  • A focus on good staffing norms and respect for the fact that the work may require time to work intensively with the individual child.
  • Regular collaboration with external associated physiotherapist, occupational therapist, psychologist, and speech/hearing educator.
  • Good facilities with ample space for activities in different rooms, preparation area, and meeting room.
  • Management that supports daily work and parental collaboration.
  • A daily life that offers freedom, influence, and many pedagogical and professional opportunities, e.g., cycling trips with the group’s electric cargo bikes or a trip to the swimming pool.
  • Influence on your own daily life and shift plan.
  • Mentor scheme
  • An employee association GIK that organizes activities such as wine tastings, game nights, cinema trips, etc., with the whole staff group at the school.
