About the job

The Danish Geodata Agency is seeking several GIS employees for nautical chart production in digital transformation At the Danish Geodata Agency we are hiring a total of seven GIS staff for the Center for Nautical Charts and Marine Data: five for the Charting Unit and two for the Procedures and Quality Unit.

The center is responsible, among other things, for charting the Danish and Greenlandic waters. We are in an exciting development phase and are looking for employees with an understanding of geospatial data who will contribute to the production of paper and electronic nautical charts based on existing datasets and as new standards and systems are introduced.

You can apply for positions in one or both units. Indicate in your application which unit(s) you are applying to. If you apply to both places, you may also indicate which unit you prefer.

About the job The Center for Nautical Charts and Marine Data consists of several units that together support safe navigation in Denmark and Greenland. The Charting Unit and the Procedures and Quality Unit have different core tasks, described below, but the staff contribute together to the center's production of nautical charts.

You will mainly work with recurring tasks within your professional area. The tasks are solved using various digital tools, and you will thus have the opportunity to build solid professional competence and potentially specialize.

At the same time, the center is developing in step with the introduction of the new standards, and in the coming years it can lead to new workflows and the need for new competencies. We therefore expect you to be prepared to continuously learn and adapt as tasks develop. At the same time, we strive to flexibly deploy employees' competencies across the center's units.

The Charting Unit – five positions You will be attached to the Charting Unit and will mainly work with electronic navigational charts (ENC) and paper charts. The unit maintains and produces nautical charts according to applicable standards, while new standards are gradually introduced. Your tasks will therefore develop in line with the transformation.

Tasks may include, among others

  • Processing depth data at various scales for electronic navigational charts
  • Production and maintenance of paper and electronic nautical charts, including data compilation and processing
  • Validation according to international standards
  • Updating and maintenance of existing products and processes
  • Digitization of data and other related tasks
  • Contributing to the center's work with procedures and quality assurance in accordance with international standards

The Procedures and Quality Unit – two positions You will be part of the Data and Quality Team, which works with geodata, digitization and data quality for use in nautical chart production.

Tasks may include

  • Mapping a new coastline based on satellite images and recording the shore
  • Digitization in GIS, for example of depths from historical sounding sheets and nautical charts in Danish and Greenlandic waters
  • Review and verification of data from historical archives and entry of data into databases
  • Processing and quality control of land-based geodata and incorporation of geodata into cartographic products

In both units you will be part of a team with an informal tone, where you have the opportunity to influence the development of your own tasks and the center's future workflows. We work closely with the other functions in the Center for Nautical Charts and Marine Data. Therefore we place great emphasis on collaboration, flexibility and a willingness to work across functions. At the same time, you must be able to focus and delve into concrete tasks.

About you You do not need to have experience with nautical chart production, but it is an advantage if you have a good understanding of geospatial data and experience with ArcGIS Pro, databases and data processing. We therefore welcome a relevant education in GIS or chart production.

Examples of relevant background include a education as a surveyor and cartographer or technical designer, as well as a bachelor’s or master’s degree in geography, geodesy, engineering or a related field. We emphasize that you have an understanding of geodata, an interest in production work and motivation to contribute to the digital transformation.

We are looking for someone who

  • Works both process- and results-oriented
  • Is proactive and takes responsibility for solving tasks within the given framework and deadlines
  • Has experience with GIS – preferably on the ESRI platform
  • Has a good understanding of geospatial data, geodatabases, maps and projections
  • Thrives in production-oriented work
  • Is approachable and collaborative
  • Understands that our products are crucial for safe navigation

We also value a can-do attitude. You must also be able to communicate in writing and orally in both Danish and English.

We offer The Danish Geodata Agency aims to be an attractive workplace with opportunities for flexible working conditions and competence development.

We are also an agency with many social activities, and we have a culture where there is room to talk and laugh together.

We have an open office environment with a beautiful view over the Limfjord in Nørresundby.

Salary and employment terms Salary and employment terms follow the collective agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the relevant professional organization. There is the possibility to negotiate allowances.

The employment area is the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Utilities with associated institutions. The workplace is Lindholm Brygge 31, 9400 Nørresundby.

The working hours are 37 hours per week. The positions in the Procedures and Quality Unit and three of the positions in the Charting Unit are to be filled with a start date of 1 February 2027. The remaining two positions in the Charting Unit are to be filled with a start date of 1 April 2027.

The appointment begins with a three-month probationary period, during which the employer may terminate the employment with 14 days notice.
