Gravedigger's Assistant Wanted for Hjerm Churches

A position as cemetery assistant at Hjerm Churches is available for occupancy on 1 December 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The parish council can offer a responsible and varied role with duties in both cemetery maintenance and church service.

This is a full-time position of 37 hours per week.

In Hjerm we have two churches – Hjerm Østre Church and Hjerm Vestre Church. Hjerm is an active village, which is also reflected in church life. We offer a wide range of services, including classical high masses, child-friendly services such as pizza church services, baptism gatherings, as well as services in Hjerm Bypark and the hall.

We have an active FDF, which we cooperate closely with in connection with, among other things, BUSK, Palm Sunday and confirmation camp. In addition, the Danish Church Sunday Schools (DFS) have both a children’s club and a junior club, and Indre Mission in Hjerm actively supports the church's work.

You will be part of a close collaboration with the graver, another cemetery assistant and the church's other staff, including the priest, organist, and church singer.

Your tasks

• Daily operation and maintenance of the two cemeteries and churches in cooperation with the cemetery keeper and the other cemetery assistant
• Church service duties during services and religious ceremonies on weekdays, weekends and holidays
• Preparation of the churches for services and other events

We expect that you

• Have an interest in working in the church and at the cemetery
• Preferably have knowledge of cemetery work and church service
• Can collaborate with the parish council, priests and other staff
• Have a positive, approachable and service-minded attitude towards both colleagues and church users
• Have a desire to undertake many different tasks
• Meet cemetery visitors with empathy and respect
• Can work both independently and as part of a team

Salary and employment terms

The employment is covered by the OAO Common Collective Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and OAO as well as the Organizational Agreement between the Ministry of Ecclesiastical Affairs and 3F with the accompanying protocol for cemetery assistants at village cemeteries.

As a new employee you will be placed in pay grade 1 and after 12 months of employment transfer to pay grade 2. Qualification and position supplements can be agreed between the parish council and 3F. The collective agreement and agreements can be seen at www.folkekirkenspersonale.dk.

There is no requirement for horticultural training.

Without horticultural education (full-time position)

• DKK 302,055 (pay grade 1)
• DKK 307,463 (pay grade 2)

With horticultural education (full-time position)

• DKK 340,364 (pay grade 1)
• DKK 350,472 (pay grade 2)

Salary is paid monthly.
