About the job

I am a fresh, young man of 33 years. I am a spastic and a wheelchair user (I have verbal language, though with a little mumble 🙂).

I therefore need help to make everyday life fit together with my many interests, which range from going to the cinema, going to concerts, training in the gym, a trip to the swimming pool, and of course simply visiting my friends and family. I have my own car, so transportation is not a problem. I also play wheelchair rugby 2-3 times a week (both in Vejle and Odense). I live in a semi-detached house in Hedensted and there are good opportunities to get there by public transport.

It takes about 30 minutes to walk from the train station in Hedensted to my home. However, it would be advantageous to have access to a car, as it provides greater flexibility.

In addition, I need help with personal care and various practical tasks you would encounter during the day – such as helping me in the shower, toilet visits, shopping, cooking, and cleaning, etc. It is important for me to have a helper who takes the initiative to take care of some of the practical tasks in the house, such as turning on the vacuum cleaner or other simple cleaning, as it can be difficult for me to always have an overview.

I study HF single subjects in Horsens. In connection with school, I have a secretary arrangement (SPS) because I am dyslexic and need help in teaching with, for example, taking notes, reading aloud, completing assignments, etc.

It is important to understand that during the day I set the overall agenda, but there will also be breaks for rest where we both can withdraw if we are not on the go. I expect you to be able to act as the fly on the wall when needed, especially if I have guests or am out of the house. I enjoy being out of the house and doing various activities and am usually cheerful and full of energy, but like everyone else I also have days with less energy where empathy, care and understanding are needed. As a helper you will spend many hours with me and will experience all facets of my personality.

In the work relationship, it is important that there is good personal chemistry, but a professional working relationship must still be maintained. I place great emphasis on being seen as me and not just as a man in a wheelchair.

Practical

  • My BPA arrangement (Citizen‑Directed Personal Assistance), runs through BPA Support and you are paid through them. Because I am studying HF, I have SPS hours that cover when I am in school. Therefore you receive both a salary from BPA Support and from DUOS who manages my SPS hours.
  • Shifts vary depending on how my day looks. I have an arrangement of 15 hours and 10 minutes per day, where the shift is either named:
  • 08:00-23:10 (Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu)
  • 10:00-01:10 (Friday and Saturday)
  • 09:00-00:10 (Sunday)

When I am at school (2-3 days a week), the day can be 6:45 – 23:10, where SPS covers school hours and BPA covers the rest.

  • The shift plans will be laid out 3 months in advance and in collaboration with the remaining people in the team.

What I expect from you

  • You are between 23 and 40 years old (gender is irrelevant).
  • You have a driver’s license and must be a capable driver.
  • You are structured and can work independently.
  • You have good situational awareness for when to be on and when to step back.
  • You should not be afraid to take action.
  • You must not fear water, as I enjoy being out and about on and in the water.
  • You are flexible with shifts all year round.
  • You must be flexible to cover illness and holidays.
  • You can accompany me outside the home.
  • Experience is an advantage, but not a requirement, as there is thorough training. However, it is expected that you have initiative and are willing to venture into new challenges.

What you get out of the job

  • A good working environment, rich in dialogue – in an informal tone.
  • Meeting a happy and smiling young man with many interests.
  • An exciting and challenging workday, which is never the same.
  • Possibility of overnight accommodation in a helper’s room for several shifts in a row.

What the helpers say about me

  • Grounded and listening.
  • Engaged in music, voluntary work and social interaction.
  • Good sense of humor.

I expect to hold ongoing conversations. I reserve the right to remove the advertisement when the right candidate has been found. If you do not hear from me, you can expect that the job has gone to someone else.

If this sounds like something for you, I look forward to receiving a motivated application.

In your application you may attach a photo of yourself and write how long you see yourself in the job.
