About the job

Would you like to help create good conditions for efficient customs handling and goods control at some of Denmark's important border crossings? Are you motivated to participate in daily task solving, and at the same time would you like to try your hand at assistant manager duties? Then you may be the person we are looking for.

Contribute to efficient customs handling and goods control

In Goods Control West we contribute to ensuring that import, export and shipment of goods can proceed smoothly and correctly, and we work closely with drivers, freight forwarders and companies. In this way, we help ensure that goods can enter and leave Denmark and the EU. We handle customs tasks at several locations across the country and are in direct contact with citizens and businesses, both at the customs offices and by email and phone.

You will join the part of Goods Control West that is responsible for ensuring efficient customs handling from our customs offices located in Hirtshals and Frederikshavn. In the coming years we will undergo a transformation in how we handle customs processing, and we therefore seek a new colleague who can participate in daily task solving and at the same time help support operations by prioritizing tasks and resources in collaboration with the operational manager.

In addition, you will be tasked with

  • supporting daily personnel management, including ongoing employee dialogue and 1:1 meetings
  • contributing to the transformation of customs handling – and leading the professional development, e.g. through professional meetings, training and knowledge sharing
  • being a sparring partner for employees and supporting quality and consistency in task execution
  • following up on task execution and ensuring that decisions and priorities are translated into practice
  • ensuring a good and safe working environment
  • contributing to cross-unit collaboration within Goods Control West and with the rest of the Customs Authority.

In the deputy manager function you report to the operational manager, who has overall responsibility for Goods Control West.

Clear and present with a focus on both people and operations

Your educational background is less important than your experience, your motivation for the task and your ability to navigate a complex daily life. It is an advantage if you have experience taking professional responsibility and supporting both management and operations. You do not necessarily have customs expertise, but you must be motivated to familiarize yourself with customs subjects and be curious about customs handling.

In addition, we emphasise that you

  • have a natural desire and ability to teach others, spar and create premises for knowledge sharing
  • can maintain an overview and prioritise in a busy and dynamic daily life
  • are visible and accessible when operations require it
  • can build and maintain good relationships and collaborate across teams
  • communicate clearly both orally and in writing and can convey expectations and requirements clearly
  • work constructively with change and development.

As part of your onboarding you will participate in both e-learning, side-by-side training and internal teaching. The Tax Administration also has a special training program for employees in the deputy manager function, which will prepare you well for the job.

We ensure efficient customs handling

The Customs Agency has about 800 employees distributed across the country. We come from very diverse backgrounds and areas of expertise – but we are all driven to take part in an important task, and we are proud of the results we create. In the control units we work every day to safeguard Danish society against illegal and dangerous goods and to ensure that companies and citizens pay the correct duties.

If you want to collaborate with dedicated colleagues nationwide and be part of solving an international task that creates value for Denmark and secures Danish society, then the Customs Agency is for you. Together we create opportunities across borders.

In Goods Control West we place importance on honest and constructive dialogue, good collaboration and a positive tone. You will become part of a department where we help each other, share knowledge and jointly take responsibility for developing the assignment solution.
