About the job

Chief Financial Officer in the Economics and Operations Staff, Danish Defence Command

Denmark stands at a historic defense and security policy turning point, where the Danish Defence must be strengthened. The Defence is being built up significantly, and around DKK 143 billion has been allocated for initiatives in the defence agreement up to 2033. The Economics and Operations Staff is responsible for ensuring that funds are used to build up combat power in the Defence. It is a highly topical and important societal task that we support.

You will become CFO in the office that is responsible for financial management of the Defence Command Establishment and Terrain Command (ETK). The position involves substantial managerial and development responsibility in an organization that supports both military and civilian workplaces and functions across the Defence.

The Establishment and Terrain Command – commonly referred to as ETK – supports and services authorities, agencies and units under the Ministry of Defence by delivering, developing and managing the operation, administration and maintenance of the physical framework that supports the Defence’s overall mission. This applies to both military and civilian workplaces, properties and facilities.

ETK also handles construction, civil works and maintenance projects and is responsible for a wide range of service and operations tasks, including canteen operations, cleaning, area management and waste management.

The core task is to ensure functional, efficient and timely frameworks for the people and activities that constitute the Defence's organization.

ETK administers more than 500 locations across the country and manages approximately 32,000 hectares. This makes ETK a central actor in creating the physical and practical conditions for both the military and civilian parts of the Defence’s operations.

As CFO you will have managerial responsibility for a department with about 40 employees organized into three elements. You will play a central role in ensuring qualified and timely financial advice to ETK so that managers at all levels can make decisions on a well-informed, accurate and financially solid basis.

Financial management in ETK is complex, where ETK’s finances consist of a wide range of areas such as its own operations, base operations/tasks and functional operations. In addition, there are a large number of external conditions that ETK must relate to on a daily basis, e.g. in construction and civil works projects, where legislation, regulations, etc. must be managed. Projects can be moved in time and space, which complicates the preparation of forecasts and the overall forecast certainty.

You must - in partnership with ETK - work purposefully with ongoing financial management, ensuring technically sound, law-abiding and holistic grounds so that decisions can be made efficiently and are ready for execution to ensure the Defence’s combat power.
