About the job

Would you like to help ensure good geodata, develop our GIS solutions and make data an even stronger tool in the municipality's work with climate, traffic, emergency services, planning and much more?

In Horsens Municipality, GIS and data play an important role in the municipal task solving. We use geographic data to support case processing, create overview and strengthen the basis for decision-making across the Technical and Environmental departments.

Therefore we are looking for a GIS and Data Consultant who wants to work with operation, maintenance and development of the municipality's GIS solutions and help make geographic data accessible and usable for our colleagues.

You will become part of the Technical and Environmental Department's Data Team, where we work with geodata, databases, digital solutions and training in the use of data for use in Technical and Environmental.

Your tasks

You will have a diverse everyday life, where you both solve operational tasks, develop solutions and help colleagues get the most out of GIS.

Your main tasks will include, among other things, to

  • Maintain and update shared public geographical data, including GeoDanmark data, so that data are correct, up-to-date and usable.
  • Take care of operation, setup and development of the municipality's browser-based GIS system, SpatialSuite.
  • Teach and guide colleagues in the use of SpatialSuite and the municipality's GIS solutions.
  • Provide support to case handlers across disciplines and help find good solutions to their GIS-related needs.
  • Participate in internal and inter-mmunicipal development tasks and knowledge sharing in various networks within the GIS area.
  • Contribute to the municipality's geographic data and GIS solutions functioning stably and creating value in daily task solving.

You will have a broad contact surface in the organization and the opportunity to influence the development of the municipality's GIS area in collaboration with both colleagues and users.

Our GIS environment and tools

In Horsens Municipality we have built a GIS environment that supports many different professional areas and makes geographic data accessible to employees across the organization.

Our system landscape includes among other things

  • SpatialSuite – browser-based GIS for viewing and using geographic data.
  • QGIS – desktop GIS for handling, processing and analyzing geodata.
  • FME – for data processing, transformation and automation of workflows.
  • EjdExplorer from LIFA – for property-related data and lookups.
  • PostgreSQL/PostGIS and SQL Server – for storage, administration and use of data.

We continuously work to ensure the quality of our data, train users and develop solutions that make it easier for the municipality's employees to use data in their task solving.

Who are you?

We imagine that you have a relevant education or experience within GIS, geodata, IT or data processing. Your educational background is not decisive. The most important is that you have the right professional competencies, a desire to learn and an interest in developing good digital solutions.

We especially emphasize that you

  • Have experience with GIS and geographic data.
  • Are keen to teach colleagues at the town hall to upgrade their GIS professionalism/ability.
  • Have knowledge of administration, setup or operation of browser-based GIS solutions – preferably SpatialSuite.
  • Have experience with or interest in data quality, metadata and documentation of GIS layers.
  • Have knowledge of databases and preferably SQL.
  • Want to work with shared public data, including GeoDanmark.
  • Are curious about new technologies and quick to learn new systems and workflows.
  • Can identify opportunities to improve and streamline the use of GIS in the organization.
  • Thrive with both independent tasks and collaboration with colleagues across disciplines.
  • Are service-minded and good at communicating technical issues in an understandable way.
  • Work in a structured way and have an eye for both detail and the overall solution.

It is an advantage if you have experience with several of our systems, but you do not need to be a specialist in them all. We value your professional curiosity, your ability to collaborate and your desire to create solutions that work in practice.

Who will be your colleagues?

You will become part of the Technical and Environmental Staff, where we are 25 colleagues working with various support tasks for Technical and Environmental. The Data Team in the Technical and Environmental Staff works with operation and development of GIS, maintenance of data and registers, and the use of data across the municipality's professional areas.

We collaborate closely on tasks, share knowledge and help each other, but also have responsibility for our own areas of work. We have an informal tone and emphasize professional sparring, good cooperation and a pragmatic approach to solving everyday challenges.

What do we offer?

We offer an exciting and diverse job where you get the opportunity to work with data, systems, people and digital solutions.

You will among other things receive

  • Good opportunities to influence the development of the municipality's GIS solutions.
  • A varied everyday life with both technical tasks, support and development work.
  • Skilled colleagues and a professional environment with room for sparring and knowledge sharing.
  • Opportunity for professional and personal development.
