About the job

Would you like to make a real difference for an 8-year-old boy and give him safe, calm, and enjoyable experiences for a couple of hours a week? Then maybe you are the one we are looking for as a substitute carer.

Being a substitute carer is a special task. It requires calm, patience and energy – but in return it provides presence, relationships, plenty of laughter and the feeling of meaning something concrete for a child and the family.

About the task

The purpose of the relief is to give the boy and his family a break in everyday life or on weekends – by arrangement.

The relief is on average 4 hours per week.

Your most important task is to create a safe, calm and structured 1:1 contact with the boy, where there is room for cozy and manageable activities.

He is a cheerful, humorous, caring and reflective boy. He has not been diagnosed with a specific condition, but he has a strong need for calm adult support and guidance in daily life. This with an emphasis on emotional regulation in situations where he becomes overstimulated and may react with self-hatred and outwardly aggressive behavior.

Predictability is important for him. He needs to know what will happen, and he thrives best with firm routines, clear structure and few choices.

His interests include, among others

Various games, Pokemon, watching movies, fishing and outdoor activities. The boy also enjoys creative activities both indoors and outdoors.

The relief can take place both at home and outdoors – for example on small trips or activities that suit his needs and daily form.

We expect that you

  • Are steady, calm and patient in your approach
  • Have the desire and ability to work in a structured way with children who need clear guidance
  • Can create security through presence, predictability and positive contact
  • Understand that small successes and calm interaction are important

Application

The application deadline is 30 November 2026.

Employment

The position is to be filled as soon as possible.

The task will be remunerated by Skanderborg Municipality, and the primary employers will be the family themselves. A child and course/Criminal record check will be obtained prior to employment.

  • Wages are adjusted in accordance with current tariffs issued by the Local Government Denmark
  • Wages are paid as hourly wages monthly in arrears
  • From Skanderborg Municipality there is no reimbursement of any selected expenses related to the relief; these are to be borne by the parents
  • If there is a need to change the working hours, this must be applied for separately by the parents by contacting Skanderborg Municipality’s Family Counseling
  • To the extent that approved time is increased, reduced or abolished, you are obliged to accept changes in the agreed working hours without further notice
  • The substitute is covered by the rules on sickness benefit under the Sick Pay Act for unemployment benefits during illness and maternity/paternity leave

Further information

If you want to know more about the job as a substitute carer, you can write to [email protected] , att: Susanne Albrektsen, who will ensure that your inquiry is forwarded to the boy's parents.
