About the job
Are you passionate about teaching dedicated employees and leaders? Do you want to join a professional team that educates military and civilian caseworkers across the entire organization? Do you have a strong interest in pedagogy? Then you might be our upcoming colleague in the Section for Continuing Education.
About us
The Institute for Leadership and Organization (ILO) contributes to creating more combat power for the Danish Defence by delivering education and professional formation to the Defence’s managers and leaders, enabling them to meet Defence’s immediate challenges as well as the Defence’s long-term known and unknown military challenges, so the Defence can win on the battlefield of the future.
The institute has a strong, ambitious and developmental professional environment with an informal tone. We prioritize close interaction between education, research and experience from organizational and leadership development. In this way we ensure that we can offer managers and leaders the most relevant and up-to-date competence development. This places high demands on us to continually adapt to current needs and stay professionally updated.
The Continuing Education section offers courses in leadership, administration and case processing to all employees across the organization as well as military and civilian leaders and managers. In line with the current development of the Defence, the courses are in a state of ongoing development, of which you are expected to be a natural part.
There are about 60 employees at the ILO, of whom the Continuing Education Section consists of 10 employees and a head.
About the position
The position is at study lecturer level, alternatively senior lecturer level depending on competences and experience. This includes considerations such as teaching experience and whether you have completed a pedagogical qualification.
The Continuing Education section consists of three teams, and you will join Team Case Processing. Your primary task will be as course leader and teacher to plan, organize, conduct and evaluate instruction on the course Case Processing and Administrative Law . The teaching is coordinated closely with your team colleagues. The ILO has attached three external lawyers who conduct the instruction in administrative law, so your role will be to teach the subject Case Processing.
The course aims to educate military and civilian employees to be able to perform the function of caseworker in the organization’s staff and commands, where good case processing and decision proposals contribute to good decisions and thus combat power.
The primary target group for the course is captains/lieutenant captains in the role of new caseworkers in staff and commands, but there is generally a very diverse participant pool in the course. This diversity contributes to a good learning environment where participants share and learn from each other’s experiences. The course has been offered since 2014. The team also conducts courses in Defense Writing Method for more experienced caseworkers.
A secondary function is to contribute to the development of the courses so they at all times remain relevant for participants and contracting authorities. In addition, you should expect to contribute to the section’s other case processing, and you will also have other tasks depending on the ILO needs and your competences and interests.
You are expected to complete the Defence Academy’s pedagogical qualification, which strengthens teachers’ pedagogical and didactic competences. In addition, there will be ongoing competence development within your professional area.
Case Processing and Administrative Law consists of four in-person modules of two days each. Eight courses are offered annually from 2027 – which is a tripling of the offerings. Half of the courses are conducted online. The courses take place at Defence establishments across Denmark, so there will be some travel associated with the position. You will participate in planning yourself, so special needs can usually be accommodated.
About you
You have a background as a caseworker, typically a junior lawyer, at one of the organization’s authorities or a similar position. Through this you have acquired solid knowledge of case processing and the workflows in a staff, command or agency. You also have a relevant academic master's degree.
It is an advantage if you have teaching experience from previous positions.
You want to contribute to educating the organization’s future caseworkers, who can contribute to integrity in administration and to preparing good decision proposals. You have good collaboration skills and are used to participating in professional communities with passionate colleagues.
You communicate well orally and in writing and you can see yourself engaging in constructive, developing dialogues with participants, colleagues, partners and contracting authorities. You manage to keep your head cool in a busy everyday life, and you thrive with a leadership style where you and colleagues translate the manager’s directives and intentions into high-quality teaching to benefit the Defence.
You contribute to a good working environment among colleagues and in the classroom.
Over the course of your career you have further developed your competences.
Terms of employment
The employment is governed by the prevailing collective agreement between the Ministry of Finance and a number of academic organizations for academics in the state (Academic Collective Agreement) and Circular on protocol regarding certain terms of employment for academic civilian researchers and instructors at the Defence Academy and Provision concerning the job structure for civilian employed researchers with and without teaching obligations, as well as civilian academic teachers at the Defence Academy.
Depending on your qualifications and competences, there is the possibility of negotiating an allowance. There is an employer-funded pension scheme attached to the position.
The workplace is in Copenhagen Ø.
As an employee within the Defence Ministry’s area you are subject to certain special conditions. You must, among other things, be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance throughout the employment period.
As an employee you are obliged to render service outside the country’s borders, including at units in international operations with the aim of participating in conflict prevention, peacekeeping, peace enforcement, humanitarian and other similar operations.

Defence Academy
At the Defence Academy we educate tomorrow’s leaders in the Defence so that they become among the most capable in NATO. Our educational programs are anchored in the military profession within the Army, Navy and Air Force as well as the elements that cross the three services.
The education ranges from basic sergeant and officer trainings in one of the three services or as a language officer, to continuing education courses and standalone courses for Defence personnel, up to a Master’s in Military Studies. All advanced education is based on research within our three core areas; military operations, military strategy and military leadership, which are handled by the academy’s five institutes.
In addition to delivering research-based teaching, our military knowledge is also widely used inside and outside the Defence for the benefit of society, our allies and other partners. The academy has a large network of collaborators at both Danish and international research and educational institutions, and contributes to the development of NATO doctrines and research projects.
