Anesthesiology Department at North Zealand Hospital has a 1-year introductory position available for filling as of February 1, 2027

We are looking for an engaged doctor who wishes to specialize in anesthesiology.

The introduction program

The first three months of employment are dedicated to training in anesthesia of uncomplicated patients and an introduction to the many aspects of anesthesiology including the acute work. In this period you work exclusively during the day, and we strive that holidays are taken outside the training period.

The clinical work

The introductory education in anesthesiology takes place primarily in the clinic – in the operating room – with the aim of anesthetizing patients safely and effectively. It is important that you are flexible, also when it involves taking on tasks you did not initially plan for. This is due to our goal of ensuring that patients are anesthetized and operated on as planned.

As on-call you will handle many acute tasks including leading the cardiac arrest team and surgical on-call and participate as a team member on the other on-calls.

Shift work

Anesthesiology is also an acute specialty and requires that you thrive on long shifts and a high workload, including at night. North Zealand Hospital is a large emergency hospital, and the shifts are usually busy, as we anesthetize patients from a large obstetric department and a large organ-surgery department. As on-call you will be part of an eight-shift, around-the-clock on-site presence in the operating room. There are four doctors on duty: one on-call in the operating room and three residents on call, of which one covers the operating room and two cover the intensive and intermediary wards.

About North Zealand Hospital

North Zealand Hospital is an emergency hospital in the Capital Region with units in Hillerød and Frederikssund as well as the Health House in Helsingør. The hospital has a strong focus on patient pathways, patient safety and the acute patient profile as well as on research and education.

About the department

The Department of Anesthesiology is the hospital's largest department with more than 400 staff, of which about 60 are doctors. The department covers the operating theatre, day surgery unit, recovery, intermediary and intensive therapy as well as the Medical Car North and Sterile Central.

The department assists annually with approximately 20,000 procedures in gastrointestinal surgery, orthopedic surgery, gynecology, obstetrics and ENT surgery. In addition, we provide anesthesia for radiological examinations, DC conversions and ECT treatment. The department has significant research activity with two professors, senior researchers, PhD students, research-year students and clinical research assistants.

Employment terms

The position is full-time and available from 1 February 2027. An outstart date cannot be offered. Housing can be provided within the agreed housing pool if desired. Salary and employment terms follow the collective agreement for junior doctors - see link .

Your salary and employment terms Authorized health professionals with patient contact who are trained in another EU/EEA country than Denmark, upon employment in the Capital Region of Denmark, must meet the Danish language proficiency requirement.* *Authorized health professionals with patient contact who are trained in another EU/EEA country than Denmark must, upon employment in the Capital Region of Denmark, have passed a Danish exam (Danish Education 3, corresponding to the 9th grade exit exam) or at a minimum be able to pass the test no later than 1 year after employment, or have obtained equivalent Danish language proficiency in another way.

The Danish exam must be passed with at least the following grades: • spoken communication with grade 10 • reading comprehension with grade 7 • written expression with grade 7
