Introductory position in the Pulmonary Medicine Section

A position as a resident physician in the Respiratory Medicine Section, Department of Lung, Hormone and Metabolic Diseases, Hvidovre Hospital, is available for occupancy as of 1. januar 2027 or by agreement.

The position has a duration of 12 months and counts as introductory training in internal medicine, respiratory medicine. Doctors in the introductory post are expected to participate in the on-call function as an intermediate on-call doctor.

The department at the Hvidovre site consists of two specialty sections: the Respiratory Medicine Section and the Endocrinology Section.

The Respiratory Medicine Section has a ward with 40 beds, including 2 semi-intensive places as well as beds for non-invasive ventilation. The section has extensive outpatient activity with an outpatient clinic, day hospital, rehabilitation, telemedicine unit and research unit.

The Respiratory Medicine Section has a good reputation among training physicians with ample opportunity to discuss patient pathways, inclusive and respectful communication and a nice place to meet at work.

As a doctor in the introductory post you will join the respiratory on-call team in the emergency department.

The emergency department at Hvidovre Hospital has a duty structure with an 8-shift on-call team consisting of junior doctors from both the Respiratory Medicine Section and the Endocrinology Section, as well as junior doctors from the Departments of Geriatrics and Cardiology.

In addition, the on-call function includes: Two 8-shift intermediate on-call teams consisting of resident physicians from the respective Respiratory Medicine and Endocrinology sections, an intermediate on-call team from the Department of Cardiology and an intermediate on-call team from the Department of Geriatrics. There is also a Respiratory Medicine on-call, Endocrinology on-call, Geriatric backup, Cardiology backup, an internal medicine senior physician on-call and an AMA-backup, the latter being on a 24-hour on-site presence.

The Respiratory Medicine Section is research-active and there will be opportunities to participate in research projects, including within the section's focus area which is obstructive lung diseases (COPD, asthma). Resident physicians with an interest in respiratory medicine, or who plan to apply for a main specialty in respiratory medicine, will have good opportunities to start a research project during the employment.

There are also opportunities to learn invasive techniques such as drainage of pneumothorax, pleural effusion and empyema, as well as an opportunity to receive formal training in the use of ultrasound for acute diagnostics and drainage placement.
