About the job

Do you have strong technical specialist skills and do you thrive with complex problems where the solution isn’t obvious? And are you motivated by using your expertise close to police investigations? As NC3’s first permanent IT specialist on the Faroe Islands, you will have an independent role with the Faroe Police in Tórshavn and a strong specialist environment in NC3 backing you. Your new daily life

The National Cyber Crime Center (NC3) is part of the National Unit for Serious Crime (NSK). We support police investigations of complex IT crime and other cases where digital traces and technical problems play a central role. In the Danish police districts we have IT outposts, which function as the local link to NC3 and bring specialized IT competencies closer to the investigation.

With the police multi-year agreement for 2026-2030, there is a special focus on strengthening the Nordic-Atlantic police districts, including the IT professional support of the Faroe Police. Therefore NC3 is now establishing for the first time a permanent IT outpost on the Faroe Islands.

As NC3’s IT outpost you will have your daily workplace with the Faroe Police in Tórshavn. Here, technical investigations are located in the investigation department, where you work together with both police professionals and IT-trained colleagues, who among other things handle data security, reading of digital devices, and technical assistance to the investigation. Together you examine the concrete issue, map the technical possibilities and find a solution that can move the investigation forward.

You will, among other things,

  • investigate and analyse technical issues in concrete investigations
  • develop and adapt scripts, small programs and other tools for data security, data processing and analysis
  • test new technologies and methods for use in investigations

The position gives you great independence and the opportunity to shape a completely new function. You become the link between the Faroe Police and NC3 and play an important role in bringing experience and needs from the local investigation back to the specialist environment in NC3.

At the same time you will become part of the Section for Technology and Innovation in NC3 and gain a close professional network with the other IT outposts and specialists in NC3. Here you share knowledge, methods and solutions and draw on each other’s competences when a task requires special expertise. You will participate in section meetings and knowledge-sharing days and will continually have opportunities for professional sparring and skills development.

Your workplace on the Faroe Islands

At the Faroe Police in Tórshavn you become part of a professional IT community where you work closely with both your local colleagues and the investigation your expertise is to support. IT-investigation is part of the central investigation at the Faroe Police, where wellbeing and a good work environment are top priorities despite a busy daily life.

If you move to the Faroe Islands

If you do not already live on the Faroe Islands, the Faroe Police would be happy to help inform you about options on the private housing market. Tórshavn has day care, schools and leisure activities for families, and we are happy to guide you to relevant information if you are considering moving in connection with the position.

When the workday ends, Tórshavn offers both sports and social life, concerts, culture and restaurants, and nature is almost outside the door. You can, among other things, hike, run, swim or kayak. If you would like to get to know your new local community better, the many activities and communities also provide good opportunities to meet people outside the workplace.

Your new colleague

We expect that you have a higher academic IT education, for example as an IT engineer, computer scientist or equivalent, and a solid technical foundation that enables you to work independently with complex IT problems.

We expect that you have practical experience in several of the following areas

  • networks and internet protocols
  • IT security and encryption
  • Windows, Linux and other operating systems
  • data analysis and handling of large or complex data sets
  • digital devices, data security or technical analysis.

You have experience with Python, C# or a similar programming language and can use programming and scripting to investigate technical issues, automate workflows and develop or adapt tools.

You do not need to know all the technologies and methods you encounter in advance. It is more important that you work analytically and methodically, can understand an unfamiliar issue and seek out the knowledge you need to find a solution. You follow technological development and are curious about new methods and tools.

The role requires you to work independently while also creating good collaborative relations around your professional area. You take initiative and share your knowledge, but are also curious about your colleagues’ experiences and the local practice. You familiarise yourself with the needs before you propose a solution, and you have an eye for ensuring the technical solution works in the concrete investigation.

You can communicate complex technical issues so that they become understandable and usable for colleagues with a different professional background, and you can collaborate across disciplines and organizational affiliations.

You must be able to communicate in Danish, which is the working language in NC3. It is an advantage if you also speak Faroese or already have knowledge of Faroese conditions. If you do not speak Faroese, you will have the opportunity to participate in Faroese language teaching together with other colleagues at the station.

Salary and terms of employment

If you have an academic background, you will be employed on collective bargaining terms in accordance with the agreements between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Association of Academics (AC).

If you have another educational background, you will be employed according to the current organizational agreement for clerical functions, laboratory staff and IT staff in the state between the Ministry of Finance and HK/STAT as well as the OAO-S joint agreement.

Organisationally, you will be attached to NC3 in the National Unit for Serious Crime (NSK). Your daily workplace will be with the Faroe Police in Tórshavn.

Your average weekly working time is 37 hours including paid lunch break. Working hours are arranged Monday to Friday between 8:00 and 16:00. You should expect to work beyond normal hours in situations where the investigation requires your assistance.

You should anticipate business trips to Denmark, including in connection with professional events, competence development and collaboration with colleagues in NC3.

The police wish to support and promote employees’ physical health. Therefore we have smoke- and nicotine-free working time, including the use of e-cigarettes.

It is a condition of employment that you can be security cleared and can maintain the clearance throughout your employment.

We expect to hold interviews in weeks 46 and 48. The expected start date is 1 March 2027, when you have been security cleared or after further agreement.
