Railway advisor sought for Movia's local rail area

In Movia we are looking for an advisor who is interested in public transport and railway infrastructure.

In Movia’s Rail Area you will become part of the close dialogue we, as the contract holder, have with Lokaltog, which is responsible for both train operations and management of the infrastructure on the local lines in our area. In addition, we have a close dialogue with Region East Denmark, which funds and makes decisions on renewals, rolling stock and the scope of operations.

Your advisory work will mainly focus on infrastructure and long-term planning. An important part of the task is, in dialogue with Lokaltog, to assess what changes in the infrastructure mean for operations. On this basis you will advise Region East Denmark by translating and converting technical and economic assessments into decision material for ongoing political decisions about the nine local railways in the Region of East Denmark.

Your primary tasks are

• Contribute to the ongoing and long-term planning of renewal and expansion of Lokaltog’s infrastructure, including in dialogue with Lokaltog to assess project possibilities and consequences for operations.
• Advise and support the region’s administration regarding maintenance, renewals and new construction on Lokaltog’s infrastructure.
• Support political decision-making and follow-up regarding major projects and construction accounts.
• Translate technical and economic assessments into clear decision proposals and notes for the region as well as Movia’s management and board.
• Coordinate and manage collaboration with the region, Lokaltog and colleagues across Movia, as well as with external consultants.

You will also contribute to the follow-up on operations and the contract with Lokaltog, but the main emphasis of the position lies on infrastructure, advisory work and decision basis. The work alternates between analysis, written communication, project management and coordination with several parties.

Who are you?

You have an interest in the railway sector and are motivated by making professional knowledge actionable in political decisions. You may have several years of relevant experience or be early in your career. The most important is that you have a solid analytical foundation and a desire to develop in the role.

To succeed in the position you must

• Be able to investigate and understand technical questions and issues and create an overview of consequences, priorities and next steps, so that the overall effects can be uncovered.
• Have or be interested in acquiring railway engineering knowledge.
• Preferably have some years of relevant experience with railway infrastructure or the technical area from e.g. analysis, planning, development or infrastructure projects.
• Have economic understanding and be able to incorporate economic considerations into your assessments.
• Be able to communicate complex professional material in writing, as a basis for political decisions.
• Be able to collaborate with different professional disciplines and stakeholders, work in a structured way and follow up on agreements.
• Thrive in a dynamic workday where your contribution is decisive for the area’s overall task solution and success.

It is an advantage if you have experience with political decision-making processes, construction projects and contract follow-up.

We emphasize that you can listen to other professional perspectives, justify your own assessments and create progress in tasks involving several parties. What you cannot do today, we will surely teach you.

A bit about the area

We are a small team that collaborates across the organization. Therefore you will also contribute to our follow-up on ongoing operations and our follow-up on Movia’s negotiated contract with Lokaltog. Our tasks range between analysis, written communication, project management and coordination with several stakeholders.

In the Rail Area we are four employees including you and a regional manager.

We are responsible for Movia’s tasks as caller in relation to Lokaltog with focus on contract follow-up for train operations, procurement of rolling stock as well as maintenance, renewal and construction projects on Lokaltog’s infrastructure.

In addition, we are the region’s partner for traffic orders on the rail area, and we also provide advisory services in the rail area so Movia can support the region’s ongoing political decision-making processes, particularly in connection with the region’s budget process.

At the same time the Rail Area maintains continuous dialogue with colleagues in Movia’s Advisory Area, which advises municipalities and the region about bus matters.

Finally we secretariat the regular meeting fora between the region, Lokaltog and Movia.
