About the job
Lawyer for diverse tasks within HR and Church Law in Aarhus Diocese
Would you like to use your law degree to advise on people, the organization and the framework for the Church of Denmark's work?
In Aarhus Diocese we are seeking a lawyer who thrives with professional variety. One day you advise on a personnel matter, and the next you may work on a construction case, or help a parish council with the legal framework for a new collaboration.
With us you will become part of an organization where the law makes a concrete difference. You will advise the bishop, provosts, priests, parish councils and colleagues on questions that affect the Church of Denmark's daily work.
Your tasks
You will get a versatile position where the tasks are distributed roughly equally between HR and personnel law on the one hand and general church law, construction cases and planning matters on the other.
Your tasks will include
- advice and sparring on HR, terms of employment and concrete personnel cases concerning priests and church officials,
- case handling and coordination of priest appointments and handling of cases including maternity leave, leave of absence, holidays and sick leave,
- contributing to the development of the diocese's HR work, including workflows, guidelines and initiatives within wellbeing and the working environment,
- legal advice on church-law questions, including the tasks, competences and collaborations of parish councils and deanery boards,
- handling of construction and planning cases as well as cases concerning clerical housing,
- handling of administrative-law cases, including access to information, and preparation of decisions, consultation responses and legal assessments.
You will have independent responsibility for your own cases and the opportunity to shape the way tasks are solved. We emphasize professional sparring and finding solutions that are legally sound and work in practice.
About you
You hold a cand.jur. or cand.merc.jur. degree and are eager to work with both HR, employment law and the legal questions connected to the Church of Denmark's organization and tasks.
We value that you
have an interest in public law and employment law and are curious about new areas of law,
- can translate legal issues into clear answers and solutions that work in practice,
- work independently and in a structured manner and follow your tasks through to completion,
- communicate clearly and understandably, both orally and in writing,
- thrive in an advisory role, listen and create good collaborative relationships,
- contribute to professional sparring and share your knowledge with colleagues.
Experience from a public authority or with HR and employment law is an advantage, but not a prerequisite. You do not need to have prior knowledge of church law or the Church of Denmark's organization. The most important is that you have a solid legal foundation and a desire to learn.
About us
Aarhus Dioceses is part of the Church of Denmark and a public administrative authority under the Ministry of Health and Church Affairs. We have a close collaboration with lawyers in the other dioceses in Denmark.
We are 18 dedicated employees with various professional backgrounds. We place emphasis on high professionalism, integrity and teamwork, and we prioritize a working environment with freedom under responsibility and an informal tone.
With us you get
- a thorough introduction and training with close professional sparring from experienced colleagues,
- good opportunities to develop your competencies and build knowledge within new areas of expertise,
- flexible working conditions and the possibility of home working by agreement,
- dedicated colleagues and a daily life where we help each other and emphasize collaboration, trust and high professionalism.
The practical
The position is 37 hours per week with start on 1 January 2027.
The appointment is covered by the collective agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC).
Your application, including CV, exam papers and any other relevant documents, must be sent to Aarhus Dioceses at the address [email protected], and must be received no later than Wednesday, 28 October 2026 at 12:00 .
We will hold two interviews: first interview on Tuesday, 10 November 2026, and second interview on Thursday, 12 November 2026.
Both interviews will be held in the morning at Aarhus Dioceses, Dalgas Avenue 46, 8000 Aarhus C.
If you have questions about the position, you can contact the Diocesan Office Chief Jette Madsen at 8614 5100 or Deputy Chief Lene Krebs Lange at 8734 5103 or send an email to [email protected].
