About the job

Children and Youth

We are looking for a teacher who is passionate about teaching young people and helping to create a safe, clear, and academically ambitious school day for students in the upper grades.

We believe that the school is primarily a place where children and young people should learn. Therefore, our core task is to create good teaching, strong subject-related communities, and clear frameworks that enable students to develop – academically, socially, and personally.

The position is, in principle, full-time and includes teaching in

  • Mathematics
  • English
  • Home Economics
  • Physical Education

Who we hope you are

We are looking for a skilled teacher in practice. Someone who

  • Wants to teach young people and create good, clear learning environments in the upper grades.
  • Has strong academic and didactic competencies within one or more of the subjects the position covers.
  • Can create varied instruction with clear boundaries and high, realistic expectations for students.
  • Can stand firm and be persistent, even when something becomes difficult.
  • Has an eye for students’ academic progression and prerequisites.
  • Sees the relationship to the students as an important part of teaching – but knows that a good relationship is not an end in itself. It should support the students’ learning and development.
  • Can meet young people respectfully and properly without being afraid to set demands.

A school where we take the task seriously

At NBS we work with children and young people who have different life circumstances and prerequisites. This places demands on us as professionals.

We believe that students generally want to succeed and be part of the community. Our task is to create frameworks, teaching, and communities where they have the opportunity to do so.

It also means that we cannot offer the same to everyone or solve all challenges around a student. The school can and should do a lot – but the school cannot do everything. We prioritize the core task and work to ensure that students experience support, clarity, and appropriate expectations.

In the upper grades, this means, among other things, that we must be able to combine academic ambition with clear classroom management and respect for the fact that students are on their way to becoming young people with increasing responsibility for their own choices.

We work with PALS, where responsibility, care, and respect are things we practice in daily life – also with the oldest students.

A workplace with a strong meaning – and demanding work

We are proud of the workplace we have created at NBS. Our employee survey (APV) shows, among other things, high job satisfaction, a strong sense of meaning in work, and a strong collegial community. At the same time, we know that working in a school can be demanding and that the workload can be high at times.

We take this seriously. We continuously work on how we organize work and prioritize our tasks so that we use our time and competences as effectively as possible on the core task.

You will become part of a workplace where we help each other, speak openly, and expect that we take responsibility for both our own teaching and the shared school.

Tight follow-up and honest expectation alignment

We know that the right match is crucial – for you, the students, and the school. Therefore you will be closely supported at the start.

You will receive

  • A mentor who knows the school’s daily life and student group.
  • Ongoing sparring and dialogue with your nearest supervisor.
  • Clear expectations and honest feedback, so that together we can ensure that the task and the framework are right.

Professionalism with us

We expect that you

  • Plan and conduct teaching with a view to academic progression and students’ participation opportunities.
  • Can create clear classroom management with calm, structure, and predictability.
  • Have high, but realistic expectations for students and hold firm, even when learning requires perseverance.
  • Work actively with students’ participation in teaching and the community.
  • Can vary the teaching and see creative, practical, and movement-based learning methods as part of good teaching.
  • Work closely with colleagues on teaching and students’ schooling.
  • See parents as important partners and communicate clearly and professionally.
  • Attend consistently and punctually – because relationships, teaching, and safety are built in everyday life.

About NBS

NBS is one of three schools in Holstebro town. We accommodate general classes from 0th to 9th grade, special classes (Styrkeklasser), sports classes, and a SFO with both general and special offerings.

We have about 760 students and 90 staff and modern physical facilities both inside and outside.

The diversity among our students is large – and it is part of our academic mission, not a condition we avoid addressing.

Is this a task you can see yourself in?

If you would like to teach young people, be a clear adult, and take responsibility for both professionalism and community, we would very much like to hear from you.
