About the job

If you want to be chief physician one day, we have a good stepping stone for you. Do you want to help develop the future acute patient pathways in an area of Denmark with room to grow? Do you want to combine clinical acute medicine with strategic leadership, strong collaboration, and the development of a well-functioning visitations center? Then the position as Chief Physician at the Acute Admissions in Esbjerg may be for you.

About the Acute Admissions The Acute Admissions in Esbjerg has a catchment area of about 250,000 residents and handles the acute entrance to the hospital around the clock. The department has about 185 staff, including 14 specialists, 15 doctors in advanced training, and 10 interns. In 2027, 16 general practice residents will join us.

Over several years we have built a strong acute medical profile with focus on quality, education, research and innovation. At the same time we run a well-established mobile emergency reception, contributing to new and coordinated patient pathways across sectors.

We are known for creating good conditions for work-life balance. Almost all of the department's specialists live more than 100 km from the hospital, and we have great experience with flexible solutions that support both an attractive working life and a well-functioning private life.

About the position As Chief Physician you will be part of the department's overall management and will have a special responsibility for the collaboration with the Visitations Unit.

You will join the department's operations council together with the department leadership, other chief physicians, head nurses and the head medical secretary. Here you contribute to the overall strategic, professional and organizational development of the Acute Admissions.

Our leadership foundation is based on trust, inclusion and shared responsibility. We prioritize that employees and teams have a high degree of autonomy in daily task execution.

  • Collaboration with relevant clinical departments and cross-sector partners
  • Development of quality, patient safety and coherent patient pathways
  • Recruitment, competence development and retention of doctors within the area of responsibility
  • Implementation of professional and organizational development initiatives

You will receive a clear mandate within your area of responsibility and function as an important link between the department's leadership and clinical operations. The department leadership is ready as a sparring partner, but the leadership area is yours.

We are looking for a specialist who

  • Has formal specialist recognition, preferably in emergency medicine or a relevant specialty
  • Has leadership experience or a strong interest in leadership
  • Has strong collaboration skills and naturally builds relations across professional groups and sectors
  • Can combine strategic overview with an understanding of everyday clinical work
  • Thrives in an organization with a high degree of involvement and shared responsibility
  • Can contribute to the further development of both the Acute Admissions and the Visitations Unit
  • Has ambitions for leadership in a culture where employees have substantial decision-making space

We offer

  • A central leadership role in a large and ambitious acute admission
  • Opportunity to shape the development of visitation and acute patient pathways
  • A strong clinical environment with engaged colleagues
  • A department focused on education, research and innovation
  • Good opportunities for professional and personal development
  • Flexible terms that support balance between work and private life
