About the job
Do you want to help improve the condition of Denmark's fjords and coastal waters? We are looking for a committed marine biologist to work with marine water planning.
As part of the Water Environment unit you will have the opportunity to work with complex and professionally challenging tasks related to the Danish implementation of the EU Water Framework Directive, which has great significance for Denmark's water environment. You will collaborate closely with the ministry's department, research institutions and stakeholders.
With us you will become part of the Agency for Green Spatial Planning and Water Environment, which works purposefully with the green transition – and where your work will have an impact on the nature and environment of the future.
You will be based in the Water Environment unit. We are a unit of about 25 staff with a head of function and an office chief. We work with complex, professional topics within assessment and regulation of the water environment. We are responsible for ensuring a substantial part of the professional basis for the upcoming river basin plans and at the same time contribute to the administration of the current river basin plans.
We place emphasis on collaboration both within the individual subject areas, across the unit and across the agency and with the Environmental Protection Agency. We have a flat structure with short paths between management and employees. The atmosphere is informal and the tone is direct and characterized by both humor and respect.
Your everyday life: When marine water planning is your field of work
In this position you will
- Participate in the preparation and implementation of river basin plans under the Water Framework Directive.
- Contribute to projects that improve the professional basis for water planning for coastal waters and the condition of Danish fjords and coastal waters.
- Engage in marine professional collaborations with research institutions and other experts
- Work with many different disciplines, including e.g. marine measures such as eelgrass planting, condition assessment for biological indicators (e.g. benthic fauna, chlorophyll and eelgrass), connections between pressure factors and environmental status and marine modelling with statistical and hydrodynamic models.
- Convey knowledge about complex biological and physical processes in a simple and easy-to-understand way – both in writing and orally.
You will become part of a professionally strong team that works with purpose to find solutions to complex challenges in the marine environment – in close collaboration with colleagues across units, particularly our unit in Sollerup.
You will have a daily life where professionalism, collaboration and responsibility go hand in hand. We value curiosity and new thinking, and you will become part of an environment where your expertise will be heard.
Who are you?
You have
- A relevant education as a marine biologist, or equivalent
- Experience with marine ecosystem management, water planning or related areas
- Broad knowledge of ecology in coastal ecosystems
- Analytical abilities and a good overview – even when the waves are high
- Good collaboration skills and a desire to work across disciplines
It is an advantage if you have knowledge in one or more of the areas: marine measures (e.g. eelgrass transplantation), various pressure factors affecting the marine environment (e.g. nutrients and fisheries), marine soft-bottom fauna, biological indicators for status assessment, and marine calculation models - statistical models and/or more complex hydro-dynamic and ecological models.
Why you should choose us
With us you get the opportunity to make a concrete difference for the marine environment now and in the future. You will work in an organization with skilled colleagues who share your passion for the environment and the green transition. We emphasize professional development, flexible working conditions and a good collegial community.
Salary and terms of employment
You will be employed in accordance with the current collective agreement for academics in the state.
The position, which is full-time, is desired to be filled on 1 December 2026.
The area of employment is the Ministry of Nature and Animal Welfare with its associated institutions. The work location is the Agency for Green Spatial Planning and Water Environment, Lerchesgade 35, 5000 Odense C.
