About the job

Nurse wanted for the Emergency Department and Trauma Center in Hospitalsbyen, Aalborg

We are pleased to tell that 2 of our good colleagues from the department have been chosen as FTR representatives for the hospital – a significant function that emphasizes the professional strength and quality we build on in the Emergency Department and Trauma Center. We now need 2 new colleagues who want to become part of our community.

The Emergency Department at Aalborg University Hospital is North Jutland's largest emergency department. We therefore offer an exciting position for a nurse who thrives in a professional and dynamic work environment with high tempo and short decision paths.

We are a well-functioning team of 100 dedicated employees distributed across different ages and experiences. As a new colleague you will become part of a milieu characterized by helpfulness, solidarity, humor and a common ambition to deliver top-class emergency nursing.

We receive the region’s most seriously injured and acutely critically ill patients, and function as both a triaged emergency department and a trauma room. This means that as a nurse here you meet a broad and varied patient category, which provides a professional breadth that few other departments can offer.

As a nurse in the emergency department you meet people on one of their toughest days. Patients are acutely critically ill or injured, and few have prepared to end up here. This means you not only provide acute nursing care, you are also the professional calm in a chaotic situation for both patient and relatives.

We work based on the hospital’s common nursing effort FoC (Fundamentals of Care), which we have adapted to fit the framework of an emergency department. This means we always focus on basic needs, even when the tempo is high. It requires professional depth, empathy and the ability to create surplus and security. This is exactly what makes the job meaningful and challenging at the same time.

We actively develop the clinical nursing practice through

  • Mono- and interdisciplinary teaching
  • Simulation and skills training
  • Trauma team training
  • Themed days and course activities

The position also includes the possibility of staffing the on-call doctor service during its opening hours, including an independent nursing track with doctor-registered patients.

At the start of your employment you will receive a thorough introduction with training, instruction and shadow shifts in both emergency medicine and the trauma department over a total of 8 weeks. You will be assigned mentors who accompany you throughout the entire start-up.

As an employee in our department you have influence over your own work schedule. We are a shift-heavy department, as it is in our “free time” that our patients come by. Therefore there are alternating shift patterns with weekend work corresponding to every 3rd weekend. We are open to different employment fractions, so the position can fit into your life.

We hold daily joint morning briefings and board meetings throughout the day where we review patient flow and ensure that everyone has a common overview of the day. After particularly demanding patient journeys we take time for brief defusing, ensuring that no one leaves with unpleasant experiences alone, and we have established structured debriefings for especially difficult incidents. We believe that security in team collaboration makes us faster and sharper when it truly matters.

As a department we prioritize a healthy and safe work environment, and we are a workplace where there is room for both professionalism and social life, as we believe that good collegial relationships make us better at our job. We protect a strong collegial community where we look after each other in daily life both when it goes fast, and when there is a need to share experiences and support each other.

We are looking for someone who

  • Is passionate about emergency nursing – you have a strong interest in caring for and treating the acutely ill and observation-demanding patient
  • Has experience under your belt – minimum 2-4 years of nursing experience and/or a preference for the specialisation in emergency nursing. If you do not have this, you should be able to consider applying for entry at some point
  • Works well with others – you naturally engage in interdisciplinary collaboration and contribute to the community
  • Can handle a fluctuating pace – the workload varies, and you keep an overview even when it is hectic
  • Gives something back – you want to contribute to a work environment where we take care of each other

We are a team that works closely together in sometimes stressful situations, and it requires trust in one another. Therefore we value the ability to collaborate as highly as the professional experience. The most important thing is that you are a colleague you can count on. With us it’s about having a solid sense of community, where we support each other – professionally and humanly.
