About the job

Are you a nurse and do you want an exciting role with acute patient pathways, shifted working hours, weekday time off and influence on your own duty rota? It is now possible to apply for a position as a nurse in the Emergency Department and Trauma Center with commencement on 1 January 2027 or by agreement.

We are a large group of professional colleagues who love working across professions in the reception of the acute patient - and we succeed when we collectively receive, assess, care for and treat our patients at a high professional level.

Acute nursing in the Emergency Department and Trauma Center entails

  • admission, observation, care and treatment, admission, transfer and discharge of children and adults with acute injuries and surgical, medical and traumatological issues
  • a symptom-oriented approach with focus on ABCDE, triage (DEPT), TOKS and a strong nursing judgment
  • admission, observation, care and treatment of patients to the Doctor on Call and a close collaboration with general practitioners in the role of GP on call and the Prehospital Doctor on-call Night Standby
  • close interdisciplinary collaboration with orthopedic surgeons, acute medicine specialists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, anaesthesia nurses and doctors, radiographers, primary sector and secretaries, etc.
  • focus on high quality, evidence-based practice, patient safety, education, development and research
  • focus on communication, information, patient and relative involvement and patient and relative engagement and documentation.

We can offer

  • a well-structured introduction period
  • training and introduction program with interdisciplinary introduction, inclusion of simulation and skills training, follow-up days with Intro- and Training Supervisors, learning conversations and supervision
  • opportunity to apply for admission to the Specialist Training in Emergency Nursing and the Practitioner Training for nurses
  • a challenging and exciting job that you can have a great influence on
  • a work environment where we all make an effort to enhance psychological safety, thereby giving everyone the opportunity to develop professionally and personally and as an interdisciplinary staff group
  • a group of colleagues with a strong social cohesion – many social activities, also across professional groups
  • shift patterns with the possibility of weekday time off
  • opportunity to influence your own duty plan (wish plan)
  • a highly specialized department in rapid development.

There is a great opportunity for professional and personal development, and for several nurses it also provides the opportunity over time to receive training and undertake roles in the Triage/Reception area, the Hospital Admissions function, the Emergency Coordinator role or in Flow and in the Center for Victims of Violence. Nurses in the Emergency Department and Trauma Center are regarded as one unified staff group, and you are therefore trained to function across the two departments.

Your training starts in one of the departments, after which you are trained in the other department. The Emergency Department and Trauma Center are part of the Acute Department, which also consists of Acute Adult Receiving, Acute Pediatric Receiving and Acute Psychiatric Receiving. The Social Nursing Scheme is based in the Acute Department but has outreach functions across the entire Aarhus University Hospital.

We are looking for a nurse colleague who

  • is eager to learn, challenge and develop professionally and personally
  • wants to work with unresolved, acute and critically ill patients
  • will make an effort to prioritize, coordinate and maintain an overview in a busy everyday life
  • can work independently and see a strength in interdisciplinary collaboration
  • has good communicative and pedagogical skills
  • wants to shape and develop nursing with focus on a good patient pathway and patient involvement
  • wants to help develop an organization across departments, specialties and professional disciplines
  • wants to contribute positively to the work environment
  • wants, in time, to participate in the special functions we have in the department
  • wants to work day, evening and night (about 10-12 shifts in four weeks)
  • wants to work 8-hour shifts every other weekend in the training period and afterwards there can be a preference for 12-hour shifts every third weekend (we have wish plans with flexible weekend scheduling).

Application deadline is 16 November 2026 and we aim to conduct interviews on 24 November 2026.

The posted positions as nurses are attached to the Emergency Department and Trauma Center in the Acute Department with reference to one of the two Chief Nurses.
