About the job

Do you want to make a difference for children and young people with special needs and help create opportunities for participation, independence and meaningful activities in the school day?

Do you also want to become part of a strong professional community with good opportunities for sparring, development and specialization?

Then you may be one of the occupational therapists we are seeking for two permanent positions and a maternity-leave cover of 35-37 hours per week at Børnecenter København's special school group.

About the job

Børnecenter København provides therapeutic support to 24 special schools in the Copenhagen Municipality. As an occupational therapist you will be permanently attached to one to three schools, where you work closely with the school staff to support the students' development, independence and participation in the school day.

You will become part of a small team with close daily collaboration and at the same time part of our overall therapy group of around 55 occupational and physical therapists. We meet regularly across teams for clinical sparring, knowledge sharing and joint development. Work at the special schools includes different occupational therapy tasks, including:

School-related occupational therapy

Here you primarily work in a consultancy capacity with a focus on creating the best possible conditions for students' participation in teaching, daily activities and the school's social communities. Tasks may include

  • observation and activity analysis to identify possibilities and barriers for the student's participation in the school day
  • assessment of sensorimotor, fine motor and oral motor functions as well as sensory processing when relevant for the student’s participation
  • guidance to the school's staff on adapting activities, environments and learning environments
  • supporting students' independence in daily activities, e.g., eating, dressing and participation in teaching
  • initiating targeted activities, shorter programs and group interventions
  • professional presentations, sparring and knowledge sharing with school staff
  • prioritizing tasks in close collaboration with your therapy colleagues and the school staff.

Individual training and rehabilitation

In addition to the school-related work we also handle individual maintenance training according to the child’s law as well as rehabilitation under the Health Act. Here you work with assessment, goal setting, planning, implementation and evaluation of training efforts in close collaboration with the child, the family and other professionals around the child.

We emphasize that the interventions are based on the child’s own goals and meaningful activities, and that there is coherence between training and the child’s everyday life.

We are looking for someone who

  • is a licensed occupational therapist and has experience with or strong interest in children and adolescents with special needs
  • has solid occupational therapy expertise and a desire to develop your competencies further
  • has knowledge of or interest in relevant occupational therapy assessment tools
  • can work independently, take initiative and prioritize your tasks
  • wants to work both consultatively and with individual training efforts
  • thrives in interdisciplinary collaboration and can actively bring your occupational therapy knowledge into play
  • is curious, flexible and keen to share knowledge and learn together with your colleagues.

You do not need to have experience with all tasks or target groups. The most important is that you want to work with children and young people with special needs and contribute with your occupational therapy expertise.

We offer

  • a strong and engaged work community with around 55 occupational and physical therapists
  • a professional environment with opportunities for sparring, specialization and competence development
  • a trust-based workplace with a high degree of influence, involvement and shared responsibility
  • a varied workday with both independent tasks and close interprofessional collaboration
  • a focus on professional development, knowledge sharing and ongoing reflection on our practice
  • an orientation program during the first 14 days, where you visit other schools and follow experienced colleagues
  • a mentorship arrangement where you are paired with an occupational therapist colleague who helps you get started.

We work purposefully to develop the quality of our therapeutic interventions. Among other things, we have developed our own flowchart for goal setting, where the child’s perspective, meaningful goals and systematic evaluation are central elements. We also continuously work to strengthen evidence-based practice.

Salary and terms of employment

The positions are 35-37 hours per week and are desired to be filled from January 4, 2027. Salary and employment terms follow the applicable collective agreement. We work with zero-time, which means that for example in a 37-hour appointment you work 39.5 hours per week and, in return, accrue extra days off. In connection with the hires we will obtain child and criminal background checks as well as references.
