Outgoing church and culture worker

We are seeking an outgoing, listening and present church and culture worker for Sankt Hans Church in Odense. The position is on average 26 hours per week. There may be a possibility for slightly more hours in a two-year project period, just as the parish council is also open to requests for fewer hours.

Job description

As our new church and culture worker, you will for the time being have particular responsibility for continuing the following tasks:

Wednesday Café primarily used by people above pension age

• Visiting service, where you recruit and support the volunteers, and match people in need of visits with volunteers
• Teaching of mini-confirmands
• Co-responsibility for the children’s corner and Super Sunday together with the church’s other church- and culture worker
• Co-responsibility for the arrangement of an evening church service for young people once a month on a Friday

Furthermore you will participate in various events such as HC Andersen Week and visits by school classes.

You must be prepared for the tasks to change, e.g., as a result of the visions and strategies set by the parish council.

The activities take place both during the week and occasionally around Sunday’s high mass. You will work closely with our current church and culture worker as well as the priests, the other staff and volunteers.

The parish council emphasizes that church staff see themselves as part of a team. In particular we want close collaboration between our two church and culture workers, so that they can enrich, inspire and complement each other in the tasks.

Who are you?

Your personal competences are decisive for this position. We want you to

· formidling of the Christian faith is crucial to succeed in the position, and we consider it a prerequisite that you are familiar with prayer, Bible reading, church services and Christian practice in general. In, for example, the visiting service it will often be required to prayer a free prayer with the citizen. Therefore experience with this will also be a necessity.

· reach out with the Christian faith to others with respect for diversity

· be familiar with the Christian faith and the Church of Denmark’s worship

· be able to collaborate with and accommodate many very different people, be listening and at the same time help drive the work forward

· be networking and outward-looking, and mindful of facilitating contacts

· be self-driven and take responsibility to move ideas into action, and at the same time

· be a team player who is listening and empathetic, and who enjoys working with others

· be able to lead and organize some activities in detail, while giving space for self-management among the volunteers and here help with an overall organization

· be able to connect with children, teenagers, young adults and older people, and understand these target groups’ wishes, needs and interests

· be able to see yourself as part of the congregation

We expect that you

· have experience working in church – or Christian contexts

· have a relevant education, preferably as a church and culture worker

· are used to using various social media in communication with others

· are used to using Office programs

Who are we?

Sankt Hans Church is located in the middle of Odense, and we see it as one of our primary tasks to be a church that is active in the city center’s life.

The congregation consists of people of all ages from across Odense and surroundings. Among others there are many young people, especially students, and families with children both young and old. In the parish there is a majority of 20-30 year-olds.

Workplace and hours

You will have an office space in the parish house. Working hours may vary; evening and weekend work can be expected. A child and criminal record check as well as references will be obtained.

This is a permanent position, so it is important that you can see yourself in the role for several years.

Terms of employment

Employment 26 hours per week with start January 1, 2027 or by agreement. Possibly there may be slightly more hours in a two-year project period.
