Outings and presence with a happy man with autism

Do you have experience with autism and developmental disabilities, and do you thrive in a 1:1 task where calm, patience and clarity are important? Then this could be a task for you.

About the assignment

You will be support for a cheerful 36-year-old man with autism and developmental disabilities. He is nonverbal and uses a speech device to communicate.

He loves going on outings and also enjoys looking through do-it-yourself magazines, watching YouTube and using his iPad. Your task is to be with him when his mother needs relief. You can go on outings or stay at home based on his interests and daily condition.

As part of the assignment you help with personal care in the form of diaper changes. Here you need to be able to remain calm and handle the situation in a clear and respectful manner. There is a ceiling lift in the home, and he uses a manual wheelchair. The family also has a minivan that is used for trips.

About you

You have experience with autism and developmental disabilities, and you are used to supporting people without verbal language.

It is important that you have a calm and patient approach and are comfortable helping with personal care. You must also have a driving license, as driving is part of the assignment.

Working hours

The position is 5 hours per month.

The hours are placed on weekday evenings or on weekend afternoons. The exact meeting times are agreed with the family.
