Practice-oriented instructors for the Center for Social Work

Then you have the chance now, as we at the Center for Social Work (CSA) are seeking instructors.

At CSA we are in the process of building a new education in line with the reform's intention of practice-oriented education and closer collaboration between students and instructors. As we also develop the overall education as well as continuing and further education, we need to expand the corps of permanent teachers.

At Professionshøjskolen Absalon, our ambition is that students experience a professionally and socially inclusive start to their studies, where they can immediately sense their future profession, their education and become part of an active student life. Therefore, students are trained, among other things, to develop a professional approach to working in study groups, so that they are as well prepared as possible for their future working life. The link between theoretical and practical experience is crucial.

Your profile

The education reform obliges us to offer students more teaching—and at the same time create better conditions for a strengthened relationship between students and instructors. Therefore we have developed workshop days, we offer student development conversations, and we increasingly work with a cadre of consistently permanent instructors. Therefore the following is essential:

Practical experience. You have solid experience from social work, e.g. from a municipal authority (children and youth, the employment sector or the specialized adult sector) - perhaps as a practitioner - or perhaps other niches within the field of social work.

Teaching experience. It is a prerequisite that you have teaching experience, as we need you to be able to step directly into the teaching role. You have thus also already felt that you enjoy teaching as your main job.

Teamwork and coordination. You have experienced that it requires strong and equal teamwork to succeed in delivering qualified teaching. You share responsibility and tasks with your colleagues when you are linked together on the tasks. You may also have experienced that being part of a team makes the task easier to approach—you pull together.

Flexibility. In the world of education, a lot is planned well in advance. Despite this, you understand that unforeseen changes can occur, and you are used to handling these constructively with a responsible and collaborative mindset.

It is our expectation that you have

• basic education as a social worker
• advanced education such as a relevant master's or candidate degree.

Your responsibilities

Your primary task is teaching future social workers as well as continuing education of practitioners within the social field. The concrete tasks are:

To develop, plan and teach at both undergraduate education and continuing and further education. This takes place in close interaction with the students, your colleagues and in collaboration with internal and external partners. In time there will be opportunities to participate in research and development tasks.

To contribute to an active and social study environment. We place emphasis on study environments being characterized by a social life and by happy and engaged students who can receive competent sparring and support, both in study groups and from their supervisors.

CSA offers the social worker education in Roskilde, Slagelse and Nykøbing

• You will primarily be attached to one campus, though with an expectation of a certain flexibility regarding the ability to teach at several of our campuses. As a starting point you will be based at our campus in Roskilde.

In CSA we are about 65 dedicated and ambitious colleagues who value collaboration and knowledge sharing in a respectful and informal tone. We are socially and academically well-founded, and appreciate professional sparring and development in a community. Therefore we prioritize presence on campus, where we are treated to an excellent canteen and lunch arrangement. There is some opportunity for home working.

• Employment is governed by the applicable collective agreement in the public sector.
• For you who are newly graduated and employed as an assistant professor, the expected starting salary would be 40,900 DKK incl. pension. For you who are an experienced instructor and employed as an associate professor, the expected starting salary would be 54,200 DKK incl. pension. Depending on experience and background, a qualification supplement may be negotiated.

Depending on your qualifications you will be employed as an assistant professor or associate professor. At Absalon, the associate professorship is a four-year education position. We support this through Absalon’s associate professor qualification program, which all newly hired assistant professors participate in, and everyone is assigned a supervisor. To be employed as an associate professor requires a positive associate professor assessment within the scope of the position structure.

When hiring associate professors who were associate professor assessed before the 2013 position structure, employment is under the previously centrally fixed salary and employment terms. Depending on your qualifications, weighed against the specific content of the position, a renewed associate professor assessment under the current position structure (fast-track arrangement) may possibly be agreed.
