About the job

Do you want to use your professional and human competencies to make a real difference?

Sdr. Omme Prison is seeking an engaged and professionally strong teacher who will help further develop the prison's schools. This is a fixed-term position running until the summer of 2027.

We are primarily looking for a skilled Danish teacher who can teach at AVU level and preferably FVU level. Other AVU subjects can be included in the subject distribution. The position is primarily in the open prison, but there may be cross-coverage.

With us you will become part of Denmark's Prison Service's important work to support people on the path to a life without crime – through education, motivation and belief in one's own abilities.

About the job

As a prison teacher you will be part of a team consisting of teachers and educational counselors. Together you are responsible for planning, delivering and developing the teaching as well as motivating and retaining the inmates in their learning journey – towards exams and further education.

Teaching takes place in small groups and is carried out either in person or via a specially secured network.

Primary responsibilities

Your main tasks will include, among others

  • Plan and conduct teaching in Danish and optionally other AVU subjects
  • Follow up on individual action plans and carry out the associated administrative tasks
  • Create a safe, motivating and differentiated learning environment
  • Participate in interdisciplinary collaboration with, among others, social workers, prison guards, workshop supervisors and therapists.

The position also implies that you must be prepared to work across both the prison's open and closed sections.

About you

We expect that you

  • Are a trained teacher and can teach Danish at AVU level and preferably FVU level
  • Are academically grounded, independent and comfortable planning teaching on your own
  • Are keen to work with a group where many have had challenges with schooling and self-confidence
  • Meet others with inclusivity, respect and a positive view of people
  • Prioritize relationship work highly
  • Are motivated by crime prevention work
  • Can work professionally in a structured prison environment where safety and risk assessment are a natural part of everyday life
  • Have good collaboration and communication skills across professional groups
  • Thrive in a daily life with both challenges and changes and keep an overview – even when pace is high
  • See opportunities rather than limitations, and actively contribute to a good, respectful and humorous work environment.

We offer

  • A thorough introduction to the job and the prison’s framework
  • A workplace with strong collaboration and shared responsibility
  • Opportunity to make a noticeable difference for inmates through teaching
  • A multidisciplinary environment focused on professional sparring and development
  • A workday where professionalism, humanity and humor go hand in hand
  • A professional and collegial community with the teaching group in both open and closed prison.

About us

Sdr. Omme Prison consists of both an open and a closed section. The closed section opened in January 2026.

Salary and terms of employment

The position is expected to be filled on 1 January 2027 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Employment is according to the current collective agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Teachers’ Union (CO10) as well as the wage agreement for prison teachers and others. The position falls under New Pay.

This is a maternity leave cover until the summer of 2027.

The employer is Denmark’s Prisons Service. Your primary place of service is Sdr. Omme Prison, Holdgårdsvej 142, 7260 Sdr. Omme.

Application

Submit application, CV, documentation of education and any other relevant experience no later than 15 November 2026.
