About the job

Do you feel drawn to authority – really true authority?

Then read on.

We are looking for a skilled colleague for authority in the specialized adult area. You who find it exciting to delve into legislation, become wiser about a complex case, and find solutions that are professionally and legally sound – and at the same time make sense for the citizen at the heart of it all.

You don’t need to know the Social Services Act by heart. We don’t know it by heart either. But you should want to find the answer, be curious about the field and not be afraid to say: "I don’t actually know – but I’ll find out."

Who are we?

In the department we are 11 caseworkers, a procurement officer and a financial officer – and of course our department head.

One of our experienced caseworkers is retiring, so we are looking for a new colleague to join the team.

We have different professional backgrounds, experiences and opinions. We do not always agree. Fortunately.

We rely on each other, discuss our cases and challenge each other’s professional judgments. Because when law, economy, professionalism and the citizen’s wishes must come together, it’s nice to have sharp colleagues nearby.

There is plenty of room in the department, and your colleague is close to you. We take our work seriously – ourselves perhaps not so much.

There is a lot of laughter during a workday. The humor can be dark, and both irony and sarcasm occur. It is not a job requirement to master any of these – but it helps if you can tolerate it.

Behind the humor lies a fellowship we are actually quite proud of. We help each other, share our knowledge and know that even the most tangled case becomes a little easier when you don’t sit with it alone.

What will you actually be doing?

Our target group is adults with significant physical and/or mental functional impairments and people in vulnerable living situations.

And there is breadth in the tasks.

We work with everything from support in own homes, accompaniment and activity and employment offers to temporary and longer-term housing. This also includes crisis centers, shelters, necessary extra costs and social exemptions – and of course cases that don’t quite fit into one category.

You will have your own group of citizens for whom you are responsible. This also means that we expect you to take responsibility for planning your work and ensuring that your cases are followed up, investigated and resolved.

You follow the case all the way – from the conversation with the citizen and the professional assessment to the decision and the subsequent follow-up.

We work with VUM 2.0 as the framework for the professional assessment and use BIT (Need, Intervention and Rate) when the citizen’s needs must be translated into a concrete intervention and allocation.

In everyday life you will, among other things, be

  • talking with citizens and identifying their wishes, resources and support needs
  • carrying out social-professional assessments, setting goals and making decisions
  • keeping track of and following up on your own citizen cases
  • advising and guiding citizens about their possibilities
  • collaborating with relatives, housing services and a wide range of internal and external partners
  • using your colleagues when a case requires more than one head.

Some cases are relatively simple. Others require digging into the legislation, discussing the case with colleagues and perhaps reading a policy statement once more. It is part of authority work – and actually something we quite like about it.

Who do we hope you are?

First and foremost you are educated as a social worker or social facilitator.

If you have experience from the authority field or the specialized adult area, that is certainly an advantage. But we do not expect you to come in the door knowing it all.

In return we expect you to be professionally curious, want the authority role and be able to take responsibility for your own cases.

We also hope that you

  • can maintain an overview when the calendar has not quite understood the plan you had laid out
  • can express yourself clearly – both when talking with a citizen and when writing a decision
  • dare to make a decision and stand professionally behind it
  • address the citizen properly – even when the answer is not what the citizen hoped for
  • can work independently without thinking that it means you have to do everything yourself
  • are curious and dare to ask questions
  • want to contribute with both your professionalism and your personality.

In other words, we are looking for a skilled colleague. Not someone who already knows everything.

What will you get in return?

Colleagues who want to be there for each other and the profession.

You will get a lot of autonomy, professional sparring and opportunities to develop. We will of course ensure that you receive a proper introduction to both the tasks, the systems and our way of working.

You also get a workplace where there is room for professional discussions, deepening, coffee and a good laugh.

We cannot promise that all your cases will be easy.

We can promise that you will not have to solve them alone.

And then there is the flexibility…

We know that life doesn’t only take place at work.

Therefore we have a flexible working week, where you work 32 hours from Monday to Thursday. The remaining hours can be arranged flexibly.

And yes – you can also choose to concentrate all 37 hours into four days and thus take Friday off.

There is also an option for a fixed day of home office when tasks permit.

As a new colleague we do expect you, at the start, to come to the office Monday to Thursday. Not because we don’t believe in homeworking, but because we want to get to know you – and because it is difficult to learn a new field, new systems, and 12 new colleagues from the kitchen table at home.

Once you are well on board, you can of course take advantage of the opportunities for both homeworking and flexible hours.
