Senior Consultant sought for Inpatient Ward S2 at the Department of General Psychiatry, Aalborg, Aalborg University Hospital

We are seeking a chief physician for Ward S2, which is a specialized open ward for patients aged 18-35 years, primarily with a psychotic disorder.

About the job

As chief physician you will have an important task in the form of management responsibility for the professional tasks that the ward undertakes. You will solve this in close collaboration with the treatment team, the leading head nurse, KAK and UUU-nurse, where you also together focus on coordinating daily operations, collaboration and the working environment. As chief physician on S2 you will be part of a strong cross-disciplinary collaboration across the psychosis area.

You will work closely with the leading chief physicians, Ward S1, the intensive care wards as well as the outpatient units to ensure coherent and well-functioning patient pathways. S2 receives patients aged 18-35, and the ward therefore also plays an important role in the transition for patients from the Ambulatory for Young People with Psychoses (OPUS) when there is a need for admission to an open ward.

The General Psychiatry Department has a clear ambition to strengthen research and the education environment within psychotic disorders, which you are also expected to actively participate in. We also place high value on education and have ongoing students, both pre- and post-graduate, within all professional groups, contributing to a dynamic and learning-oriented working environment. You are expected to participate in activities and teaching, particularly in fulfilling this task for medical students and doctors.

Finally, you will naturally have an important role in anchoring the ward's collaboration with the other wards.

About you

It is a prerequisite that you are a specialist in psychiatry, here with a strong professional profile, and that you wish to work in an exciting position with both clinical and educational activities as well as possibly research. That you thrive in a multidisciplinary work field with many colleagues and collaborators, have good communication skills and are able to structure your daily life in connection with the development activities – and you are, of course, an active team player in a changing everyday life.

We expect that you have

• Danish authorization as a specialist in psychiatry
• Good collaboration skills
• Good communication skills
• Ability to motivate and provide professional sparring
• Ability to achieve results based on common direction and coordination.

Clinical experience and competencies within the psychosis area would be an advantage.

Psychiatry in the North Jutland Region is organizationally part of Aalborg University Hospital and comprises five departments: the three located in Aalborg (General Psychiatry Department, Aalborg, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Department, Forensic Psychiatry Department) and two based in Brønderslev (general adult and elderly psychiatry). The General Psychiatry Department, Aalborg comprises five areas with open- and intensive ward beds, a regional psychiatric emergency department with reception, and an extensive outpatient function.

The professional development in the area is prioritized highly, and a clinical professor is attached.

Teaching of medical students is an integrated part of the department's other activities.

The General Psychiatry Department, Aalborg is part of Aalborg University Hospital and is together with the somatic hospitals in the Hospital City, where the Department Leadership is housed. The department leadership consists of a chief physician and a chief nurse. The ward management in the area consists of a head of department and the two leading chief nurses in S1 and S2.

Ambulatory for Anxiety and Personality Psychiatry as well as Ambulatory for Affective Disorders (Team Bipolar and Team Depression) is still located at Mølleparkvej until the relocation to the combined Ambulatory House on Brandevej in Aalborg East is completed, expected early 2027. Ambulatory for Psychoses and Ambulatory for Young People with Psychoses (OPUS) are already located in Brandevej premises

The department's catchment area is the municipalities of Aalborg, Rebild, Vesthimmerland and Mariagerfjord for patients at the main function level and in addition the entire Region North Jutland for patients followed at regional function level.
