About the job

Your role includes technical responsibility for the design and integration of large heat pump solutions in district heating and industry. The work ranges from concept and analysis to tendering and implementation, with a focus on robust solutions, high performance and efficient interaction between heating, cooling and other energy systems.

You will work closely with customers and suppliers, set requirements for the solutions and ensure that the chosen concepts are technically and economically sustainable.

The green energy solutions of the future

The energy system is rapidly evolving and increasingly based on electrification, integration and the utilization of surplus energy. Large heat pumps play a central role in this development – both in the district heating sector and in industry.

In this position you will have the opportunity to work on projects where heating, cooling and energy systems are connected in complex solutions with high demands for performance and robustness.

The Cooling & Heat Pumps Department at Artelia

The department works on projects from idea phase and analysis to design, tendering and realization. We work with both classical and complex energy installations for utility companies and industrial customers.

The focus is on holistic design and integration of heat pumps in energy systems – not on the development of individual components.

Our expectations of you

The role requires that you have technical authority and the ability to take ownership of solutions. You have experience as the technical lead in larger projects and the ability to stand behind choices to both customers and suppliers.

We expect you to have a critical approach to existing solutions and a professional depth that can help raise the level of the projects. At the same time it is important that you can distinguish between standard solutions and truly optimized plants and ensure that the chosen solutions are technically and economically robust.

You must also be able to navigate complex projects with many stakeholders and gain

  • A central role in building a strong professional community in heat pumps
  • Work on some of the most complex energy projects
  • Real influence on technical choices and solutions
  • An environment with high professionalism and short decision-making paths

Your profile

  • Technical education as an engineer or equivalent
  • Minimum 10–15 years of relevant experience
  • Documented references from larger heat pump projects in MW scale
  • Experience with high-temperature heat pumps and complex energy systems
  • Experience from consultancy, supplier or contractor
  • Experience with design of both site-built plants and supplier-based solutions
  • In-depth understanding of:
  • Thermodynamics and system design
  • System integration, hydraulics, heat exchangers, control and regulation
  • Natural refrigerants (CO₂, NH₃…)
  • Ability to understand complex technical contexts and identify the right solutions (compressor technology is considered part of the whole – not the main focus of the role).

Your main tasks

  • Technical lead for the design and engineering of large heat pump solutions
  • Preparation of functional tender specifications and technical specifications
  • Dimensioning and integration of heat pumps in complex energy systems
  • Design of solutions based on multiple heat sources, including air, water, ground and surplus heat
  • Critical evaluation and challenge of supplier solutions
  • Technical sparring with customers, suppliers and internal specialists
  • Ensuring performance, robustness and feasibility
  • Contributing to the development of best practices with a focus on holistic approach and integration.

As needed, simulation of the entire plant and its integration into the energy system using tools such as ProEnergi, Termoflex, EES and Python to ensure that the solutions meet expectations.

We offer

  • Many exciting and challenging projects
  • A strong professional network with engaged and competent colleagues
  • A culture where well-being, collaboration and working conditions are prioritized
  • A dynamic and inspiring environment with ample opportunity for personal development
  • An workplace where “freedom with responsibility” is a core value
