About the job

Can you see the professionalism in a calm night?

At the Forensic Psychiatric Ward B1 we are seeking a social- and health care assistant for a one-year night shift.

Night on B1 is about overview, clear frameworks and calm presence. Some patients sleep through the night, while others are awake at times, restless or mentally swirling.

Your task is to support the patients, keep to common agreements and contribute to keeping the night as calm and predictable as possible.

It requires clarity, patience and professional overview.

Who are we?

B1 is a closed forensic psychiatric ward at Psychiatric Center Sct. Hans in Roskilde. We have 16 patients with longer-term trajectories.

Patients often have severe mental disorders — typically psychotic illnesses such as schizophrenia — and may also have substance use, cognitive difficulties and social challenges. Patients have orders for treatment, and the admission has a crime-prevention purpose.

Patient pathways often span several years. This demands clear frameworks, shared agreements and close collaboration — also at night.

What does a social- and health care assistant do in the night shift on B1?

As a social- and health care assistant in night shift you help make the night function for both patients and colleagues.

You become part of a fixed night team. At night you work with three other colleagues, and there is also the option to call in a trolley.

You will among other things work with

  • To support night-time calm through calm presence, overview and clear boundaries.
  • To support patients in situations of agitation, racing thoughts or sleep difficulties.
  • To observe changes in patients' mental and physical condition.
  • To work preventively and de-escalate, so situations do not develop.
  • To document relevant observations, incidents and agreements.
  • To ensure a clear handover to the day shift.

The night shift is not passive. But it is something else than day and evening shifts. It requires that you can stay awake, be attentive and available — without making the night more active than necessary.

Who are you?

You are a licensed social- and health care assistant and thrive with the night shift's special rhythm and responsibility.

You do not need to have experience from forensic psychiatry. Psychiatric experience is an advantage, but not a requirement. The most important is that you have an interest in psychiatry, can work calmly and structurally and want to learn the specialty.

We are looking for you who

  • Can be calm, clear and present — also when others are agitated.
  • Have a natural sense of when to step in and when to give space.
  • Can hold to common agreements in a respectful and professional way.
  • Can work independently and at the same time be a reliable part of the night team.
  • Is thorough and good at handing over what others need to know.
  • Wants to become a stable part of a fixed night team.

You may also have a sense of humor.

Even at night. Just the calm kind.

You are not alone

At B1 safety and collaboration are a joint task — also at night.

In working with patients there is always a colleague nearby whom you can see or hear. We do not work alone.

You will get

  • Thorough introduction.
  • Mentor scheme.
  • Side-by-side learning with experienced colleagues.
  • Four days course in conflict management.
  • Training in safety, workflows and common frameworks.
  • Close professional sparring.
  • Supervision.
  • Colleagues who help each other.
  • Management close to everyday life.

You gradually learn the specialty through introduction, training, sparring and experience in practice.

We do not expect you to know forensic psychiatry from the first night. The most important is that you come with professional curiosity, integrity and a desire to become proficient together with us.

What do we offer?

We offer a workplace with high professional standards, clear frameworks and a staff group that takes the task seriously, but where there is also room for humor and humanity in daily life.

The night shifts are an important and valued part of the staff group at B1 — not someone who just “tends to the ward” while the rest sleep.

You will have the opportunity to work in a specialized forensic psychiatric ward with longer-term patient trajectories and develop strong competencies within psychiatry, relational safety, de-escalation, observations, night peace and shared frameworks.

We have a stable staff group, clear structures and a strong collegial community where we help each other with a complex task.

Salary and terms

The position is a one-year temporary post with start on 01.12.2026 or by agreement.

Salary and terms in accordance with the collective agreement for social- and health care personnel between RLTN and FOA with pay grade as social- and health care assistant.

You will be employed in mixed shifts with primary night shifts. You work mainly Monday to Sunday in even weeks.

The region is a 24-hour area, and you may be scheduled for shifts at other times as needed in accordance with the rules in the applicable working time agreement/working time regulations in the collective agreement.

You are employed at Amager and Hvidovre Hospital, Psychiatric Center Sct. Hans.

Are you curious?

You do not need to be completely sure whether forensic psychiatry is for you before you call.

In fact you may be curious, uncertain or simply think

"It sounds interesting, but I am not completely sure if forensic psychiatry is for me."

Then we will take it from there.

You are very welcome to contact Chief Nurse Martin Corlin Christensen at the phone number 38 64 23 36 , if you want to hear more about the position, the duty plan or the work on B1.

You are also welcome to stop by for an informal coffee and a tour, so you can get a sense of the framework and everyday life.

We look forward to receiving your application and CV via the link on the page.
