1 permanent position as social- and healthcare assistant in the maternity department in Gødstrup as of 1/1 2027 (or by agreement), 37 hours.

Professional and organizational profile

Around 3100 babies are born each year in our maternity ward. For several years we have been working to create a completely unique atmosphere in our new maternity and birth ward, and we are very happy to welcome families into some fantastic, beautiful surroundings. We have 8 interactive birth rooms with local nature videos that help create a calming atmosphere during birth. Our postpartum rooms are single rooms with a double bed so the family can be together.

It is important to us that our families experience a high quality, based on the individual couple's wishes and possibilities.

In the family cluster we work closely with Children and Young People, especially the department for preterm and sick newborns with babies down to 28 weeks of gestation.

Responsibilities and areas of work

Each birth is unique, and we must do our best to give families exactly the birth they wish for. On a maternity ward, safe operation is crucial. We must always be two steps ahead with restocking, orders of supplies, and not least in acute situations where equipment must always be ready. Order and systematic are essential ingredients to create calm in acute situations. As a SOSA you have a great responsibility to ensure this, while you assist the midwives during births.

As a SOSA you have an independent area of responsibility with practical tasks mainly in the maternity ward, but also on the maternity- and postpartum ward. In pathological births, in addition to the SOSA, the midwives call in our clinical midwifery supervisor (and often the doctors), so you work as a team in the delivery room.

Who are we?

In the maternity ward there are midwives (some in a known midwife team, i.e. they are on call at home until their patient is on the way), other midwives on fixed standby on the ward, doctors and 5 SOSA. As a SOSA in the maternity department you will work in rotating shifts – day shifts, evening shifts and occasional night shifts, and you are planned to work 4-5 weekends in a 12-week norm. We take as much account as possible of wishes regarding the duty roster.

We are an open organization with a focus on possibilities rather than constraints. We have an informal tone in the department, and a good mood. Here the ceiling is high, and we need all staff ideas and contributions to create a super good birthplace. Key words are independent responsibility, flexibility, and coherence/coordination in information, care and treatment. All doctors, midwives and SOSA undergo annual cross-disciplinary mandatory team training of acute situations, as well as resuscitation of children.

We have clinical supervisors around the clock, and a rewarding collaboration with the department's doctors. The maternity department and the postpartum department (which employs both midwives and nurses) work closely together and help each other in busy shifts and during illness.

The large fluctuations in flow on a maternity ward, together with the requirement of 100% presence of a midwife on the delivery ward, place great demands on us for flexibility. We therefore help each other in all roles when needed. Also between the maternity ward and the postpartum ward. We prioritise being where the couple needs it. This sometimes means many steps for you as a SOSA in a busy shift with many births.

Experience from a maternity or postpartum department will naturally be a plus, but not a requirement. The first month is a pure training period if you have not previously worked in a maternity ward.
