A diverse workplace

Sommerhaven is an integrated municipal day-care institution with about 80 children distributed across three infant groups and three preschool groups. The institution has good physical spaces with a focus on small, inspiring learning environments that support the children’s play, development and communities. Children are organized into smaller groups during the day, where the adults have a clear, present and guiding role based on the children’s perspectives, interests and needs.

The pedagogical work

We are particularly focused on children’s play and play strategies, and how we as professionals best can support the children’s participation in communities. We see play as a fundamental mentalizing activity. Therefore, we work purposefully to create frameworks where all children experience being part of meaningful communities and have the opportunity to develop their play competencies. Play, movement and outdoor life have a high priority in our daily life and are a natural part of the pedagogical practice.

Sports institution

Sommerhaven was certified as a sports institution in December 2025. Movement is therefore an integrated part of our pedagogical work, and we actively work to create learning environments where the children develop joy in physical activity, body awareness and community through movement.

Employment is in accordance with current agreement. Salary is agreed according to the principles of Ny løn (New Pay). A child and criminal record check will be obtained for employees who are employed in municipal day-care institutions in Herlev Municipality.
