Specialists (several roles) for data center infrastructure for the Armed Forces' new Digital Backbone

The Defence is facing a comprehensive digital and operational transformation to meet future challenges. The Digital and Operational Transformation program therefore builds the future digital and data-centric defence in collaboration with the operational units.

You will become part of the Digital Backbone department, which is responsible for the concrete establishment of the Defence’s new IT platform, including data centres.

About the positions

We are seeking experienced, professionally anchored and initiative-taking team players for the Datacenter Infrastructure and Compute section. The section shall design and implement standardized products and management tools, and is also responsible for the initial operation of the scalable datacenter infrastructure.

You will have close collaboration with large parts of the program and the entire department due to the section’s central role. You will also have close collaboration with project managers from many parts of the Defence and civilian suppliers.

You will be central to the building and operation of a modern, scalable and secure datacenter solution that forms the basis for both current and future operational IT solutions. As the scale increases, you will contribute to making this also happen at the other locations.

You will be part of a highly specialized team that works with automation, monitoring and operation of hybrid datacentres, focusing e.g. on Infrastructure as Code, Infrastructure as a Service, Container as a Service and Platform as a Service.

Your main tasks will be to contribute to

• Implementation, initial operation and maintenance of datacenter and cloud infrastructure.
• Design, development and management of infrastructure and management layer across classification levels.
• Establishment and further development of the overall digital infrastructure within Digital Backbone.
• Implementation of automated and self-healing processes that ensure proactive operation and high availability.
• Application of AI and Machine Learning for monitoring, fault handling and documentation.
• Preparation of technical documentation as well as professional assistance in internal and external project and development work.

Other tasks include participating in

• Planning of own maintenance training within the functional area to maintain qualifications.
• Cross-functional teams and contribute to architecture, security, CI/CD and operational excellence across platforms and projects.
• Site surveys for our other locations, partners and suppliers.
• All types of tasks that ensure and develop DOT’s ability to operate.
• Technical readiness in connection with initial operation of the scalable datacenter infrastructure.
• Quality control, including preparation of documentation and processes.

About you

Your background can be diverse, but we expect you to have solid knowledge of datacentres and their context. You may have a vocational education as well as a short-, medium- or long higher education. In all cases you have a clear technical IT profile. Alternatively you can document competencies and results in related areas and contexts.

Regardless of background we expect a minimum of 3-5 years of experience and relevant and current continuing education in your field.

We expect that you have experience in relation to the above tasks and characteristics at a scale from environments with a high degree of isolation and high compliance, governance, documentation and control. Experience you can bring into the section, the department and the program.

You master technical English and have a driving licence for a regular car (category B).

You have experience with

• Design, implementation and operation of datacenter- and cloud infrastructure with focus on security, scalability and robustness.
• DevOps principles, automation and IaC.
• Monitoring, metrics and log management.
• Operation and optimization of server, storage and network infrastructure across physical, virtual and container-based environments.
• CI/CD pipelines and integration between development and operations.

You are familiar with

• Identity & Access Management, governance and compliance.
• Scripting languages and tools.
• ITIL and automated operations management.
• Container technologies and platform services.
• Hybrid and multicloud environments.

Employment terms

You will be employed in accordance with the applicable collective agreement at any given time.

Depending on your qualifications and competencies, there is a possibility for negotiating supplements. There is an employer-funded pension scheme linked to the position.

Your daily workplace is in Karup or Aalborg. Expect regular travel to all our locations.

As an employee under the Ministry of Defence, you are subject to some special terms. You must be able to obtain security clearance and maintain it throughout the employment.

You, as an employee, are obliged to perform service outside the country’s borders, including at units in international operations with a view to participation in conflict prevention, peacekeeping, peacemaking, humanitarian and other similar operations.

About FMI

The Danish Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organization (FMI) is a directorate under the Ministry of Defence.

FMI is responsible for the Defence and Civil Emergency materiel, IT and cyber security. We procure, operate and dispose materiel and IT for the Army, Navy, Air Force, Arctic Command, Special Operations Command, Home Guard, Civil Protection Agency and the rest of the MoD. Our IT staff also helps to withstand cyber attacks faced by the MoD group.
