Consultant in Pediatrics with a focus area within Gastroenterology and Nephro-urology - Children and Young People, Esbjerg and Grindsted Hospital

We are seeking a consultant pediatrician with a particular area of interest within pediatric gastroenterology and nephro-urology for Children and Young People, Esbjerg Hospital. The position is desired to be filled on 1 March 2027 or by agreement. The task You will participate in the department's overall clinical operations with:

• ward rounds in the inpatient ward
• outpatient function, including development and management of pathways for children with gastroenterological and nephro-urological problems
• participation in on-call work in a two-shift arrangement (pre-call/after-call depending on organization)

You will have a special professional responsibility to

• contribute to the diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of children with gastroenterological and uro-nephrological disorders
• participate in multidisciplinary collaboration with, among others, surgery, radiology, dietitians and other relevant specialties
• participate in development and quality projects within the areas of interest

There may, by agreement, be the possibility of a stay at highly specialized units in the region to support specialty education.

The department Children and Young People is a part of Esbjerg and Grindsted Hospital, University Hospital of Southern Denmark. The department covers an intake area of about 225,000 inhabitants and consists of:

• Children and youth reception
• Ward (0–17 years) with pediatric and surgical children
• Neonatal unit with regional function (from GA 28+0)
• Ambulatory care and day hospital

There are annually about 20,000 outpatient contacts (of which about 12,000 are in-person), about 4,000 admissions to Children and Young People and about 600 admissions to the neonatal ward. There are around 1,800 births per year.

• You have an area of interest within gastroenterology and nephro-urology – preferably with experience, but otherwise with a willingness to develop competencies

• You are keen to teach and supervise junior doctors, students and other professional groups
• It is advantageous if you have research experience or an interest in participating in research and quality projects

Education and research At Children and Young People we actively participate in the education of all professional groups and highly prioritize a good educational environment.

From 2022 the master's program in medicine has been established in Esbjerg, and in due course there will be possibilities for university affiliation (e.g., clinical associate professor) for doctors with relevant qualifications.

Doctors with scientific qualifications corresponding to PhD level can receive support from the research unit aimed at upgrading to a lectureship.

The region is obliged to inform you of the starting salary for the position. You will be informed of the base salary, centrally fixed allowances and pension in Subordinate doctors - agreement 33.06.1 - salary as of 01.10.2026 . In addition to the starting salary, the pay may include any negotiated allowances depending on the position, your experience and qualifications.
