Social and health care helper apprentice – a meaningful education close to life

The social and health care helper education is a sandwich (alternate) education with 3 school periods and 2 training periods, respectively at a care center and in home care.

• RKV – if you are 25 years or older at the start of the education

• Employment certificate from a previous employer in the field

The vocational education for social- and health care helper has, as its overarching purpose, that the student through school instruction and practical training, acquires knowledge and skills within

• professional care
• care and practical help in a rehabilitative perspective within the primary municipal area

A social and health care helper works among other things with the following tasks

• practical and personal help, care and nursing for citizens
• health-promoting and disease-prevention activities
• communication, documentation, guidance and instruction
• activity and rehabilitation in collaboration with the citizen and his/her relatives

There is a possibility to continue studying in the area, for example to become a social- and health care assistant.

The theoretical part of the education takes place at

Social- and health care School South in Aabenraa.

The practical part of the education takes place in

• The apprenticeship period takes place at a care center in Sønderborg Municipality
• The apprenticeship period takes place in home care in Sønderborg Municipality

Total duration of the education

The education lasts 1 year and 2 months.

Application deadline

6 December 2026.

Interviews are expected to be held weeks 50-51 2026.

A criminal record check will be obtained upon employment.

For information, there is a smoke-free working time in Sønderborg Municipality as of January 1, 2020.
