About the job

Institute for Computer Science is seeking a laboratory assistant for a student job starting December 15 or as soon as possible. You must be a student, and the employment is for the duration of your education and ends when you complete your studies.

Student employees working as laboratory assistants at the Institute for Computer Science work with the daily operation of research and teaching laboratories at the Institute for Computer Science. The work is carried out in collaboration with the institute's laboratory coordinator and the institute's laboratory committee.

Primary tasks

  • Maintain machinery and prototype facilities (3D printers, CNC, laser cutters) as well as instructions
  • Handling lending of equipment and materials to projects (research and education)
  • Deliver introductory courses (laboratory work and lab license for workshop and digital fabrication lab)
  • Manage material library and tutorials (electronics components, consumables, design materials, instructions)
  • Oversee the work environment in project rooms/study areas in the laboratories.

Requirements for professional qualifications and working hours

A deep professional insight into general technologies used in and around teaching laboratories is expected, including 3D printers, laser cutters and manufacturing of printed circuit boards. This insight can be demonstrated through good grades in the courses IT Product Design Project and Physical Computing, or comparable courses.

In addition, lab staff are members of the institute's Laboratory Committee, which makes decisions about operations, work environment, safety, and larger purchases in the lab area at the Institute for Computer Science. https://cs.staff.au.dk/boards-and-committees/lab-committee/

As a lab assistant you will typically work 5 hours per week on average. The number of hours is planned with the lab coordinator and varies depending on the team structure, student life and the needs of the tasks. There will be periods of higher intensity and workload than others. Planning avoids examination periods, and there will be weeks/months completely without working hours. The primary tasks fall within normal working hours.
