About the job
Department 2 – Family and Holism
Would you like to be part of a specialized professional environment where early family treatment, high professionalism, and cross-department collaboration go hand in hand?
We are looking for a professionally grounded family therapist with knowledge of infant and toddler development, an eye for complex family issues, and the ability to translate professional assessments into concrete treatment interventions.
You will become part of the infant team in Department 2 – Family and Holism. Here we work with specialized family treatment for pregnant women and families with children primarily aged 0–2 years. Our interventions can continue up to the child’s 6th year.
We are looking for a colleague who is strongly committed to early family treatment and who also sees it as a natural part of the job to bring their expertise into play across our department and Family Center-Day.
A specialized professional focus with the child at the center
In the infant team we work with families where there is concern for the child’s well-being and development, and where there is a need for a targeted and specialized family treatment approach.
Our professional foundation is built, among other things, on developmental psychology, attachment, mentalization, and knowledge about parents’ caregiving capacity.
We work systematically with observations, professional assessments, and treatment goals. We are focused on understanding the child’s needs, the interaction between child and parents, and the family’s overall situation, so that our professional knowledge can be translated into actions that support the child’s well-being and development.
Part of our specialized work is MTB (Minding the Baby), which is carried out by trained family therapists and health visitors in close interdisciplinary collaboration. We are continuing to develop and strengthen the initiative and have an ambition that infant-ward knowledge and experience from MTB will be more integrated into the team’s overall professional practice.
We also use mentalization-based approaches and relevant infant-ward methods, including NBO, ADBB, and MIM-P, depending on the specific intervention and the employees’ competencies.
With us, professionalism is not only something we know. It is something that must be recognizable in our encounters with the families, in our professional assessments, and in the way we plan and adjust the interventions.
Your tasks
As a family therapist you will, among other things
- Plan, implement, and evaluate specialized family treatment programs for families with infants and young children.
- Work purposefully with the child’s development, parents’ caregiving capacity, and the family’s overall situation.
- Conduct systematic observations and translate professional assessments into concrete treatment goals and actions.
- Apply developmental psychology, attachment, and mentalization-based knowledge in family treatment.
- Document and evaluate the development of the intervention and communicate professional assessments to relevant collaborators.
- Collaborate closely with children and youth counselors, health visitors, and other professionals around the families.
- Contribute actively to professional sparring, supervision, and the development of our shared practice.
- Handle family treatment tasks across Department 2 and, when needed, in other parts of Family Center-Day.
A position anchored in professional practice with cross-functional tasks
You will become part of the infant team, where you gain your professional and organizational anchoring and participate in the team’s daily work and development. We are based at Family House Kolding, where we have offices and meet as colleagues.
At the same time, we work in Family Center-Day to create a flexible and coherent task solution, where we use our combined competencies in the best possible way for the benefit of children and families.
This means that we as employees in the infant team also contribute to family treatment tasks in our other teams in Department 2 – Holistic Family Intervention (HFI) and Job and Family Life – when the infant team’s overall capacity allows for it.
If needed, there may also be tasks in other departments at Family Center-Day.
Tasks are allocated based on the child’s and family’s needs, the professional competencies required by the task, and the capacity we have available.
For us, cross-functional work is about bringing the right expertise into play around the families and taking joint responsibility for ensuring that our interventions are aligned.
We are therefore looking for a colleague who is strong in their specialized professionalism and who sees it as a natural part of the job to contribute to the common core task across teams.
What kind of professionalism are we seeking?
We are looking for a colleague with a relevant pedagogical background, preferably supplemented with family treatment or therapeutic postgraduate education.
We especially value that you
- Have experience with family treatment and preferably specialized experience with pregnant women, infants, and young children.
- Have solid knowledge of early development, developmental psychology, attachment, and mentalization.
- Can work systematically and methodically with observations, professional assessments, and treatment goals.
- Have experience with families in complex life situations where there may be significant concern for the child’s well-being and development.
- Can translate theoretical knowledge and professional assessments into concrete family treatment.
- Can work independently while actively contributing to interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Are professionally curious, reflective, and open to feedback and other perspectives.
- Are flexible in task execution and see it as a natural part of the position to contribute your expertise across teams and target groups when the overall task requires it.
- Can plan your working hours according to the families’ needs, which may also involve early mornings and late afternoons or evenings.
- Takes responsibility for both your own task execution and the development of the shared professional work.
Experience with MTB, NBO, ADBB, MIM-P, or other infant-ward methods is an advantage.
We also emphasize that you can be inquisitive in your own practice, justify your professional choices, and participate in a work community where we share knowledge and respectfully challenge each other’s perspectives for the sake of the common task.
A professional community where we develop together
In Family Center-Day we work from the outset of Citizen at the Center as the basis for Kolding Municipality’s vision Self-worth and Coherence and our shared Children’s and Youths’ View .
We are focused on how we translate our professional knowledge into actions that make a real difference for the children and families.
For us, professional development takes place through education, supervision, and everyday collaboration. It happens when we examine our practice, share our knowledge, give each other feedback, and dare to challenge our own understandings.
We believe that different professional perspectives strengthen the quality of our interventions, and that we succeed best when we take joint responsibility for the core task.
This requires both professional independence and the willingness to be part of a committed work community, where we are curious about each other’s knowledge and contributions.
FIT – a shared professional effort
In Family Center-Day we are implementing a joint competency development program in FIT (Feedback Informed Treatment), where employees over a two-year period undergo training in the method. The infant team will begin the training in spring 2027.
FIT shall strengthen our work with systematic feedback and inclusion of the families’ perspectives, so we can continuously examine, evaluate, and adjust our interventions based on what creates value for the children and families.
For us, it’s not just about learning a new method, but about developing a shared professional practice where feedback, reflection, and learning become a natural part of our work.
This also means that as professional practitioners we must be willing to examine our own impact in the treatment work and be open to families’ feedback that may lead to adjustments in our approach.
We therefore seek a colleague who has ambitions for their own professionalism and wishes to actively contribute to the shared development.
What do we offer?
- An specialized professional environment focused on early family treatment.
- Close interdisciplinary collaboration with health visitors, authorities, and other partners.
- Professional sparring, supervision, and opportunities for competence development.
- FIT training starting in spring 2027 as part of Family Center-Day’s shared competency development.
- Opportunity to contribute to the development of our infant-ward interventions and methods.
- An workplace with a focus on reflection, feedback, and shared learning.
- A varied daily life with both specialized tasks and opportunities to apply your expertise across the board.
- A work community that values professionalism, responsibility, collaboration, and job satisfaction.
