About the job
Team Leader for Team Vehicle Inspection Companies & Roadside Inspection – join to develop the future supervision
Do you want to lead a strong professional team that every day makes a difference for traffic safety? Are you keen to further develop an administrative area where efficient operations, risk-based supervision and digitalization go hand in hand? And are you motivated by creating direction, developing skilled employees and leading both remotely and closely with the daily task solving?
Then you may be our new team leader in Team Vehicle Inspection Companies and Roadside Inspection.
As team leader you will play a central role in ensuring both the daily operations and the continued strategic development of the team’s tasks. You will be responsible for a strong professional team that contributes to vehicle inspection companies and training providers meeting applicable rules and standards, and that Denmark fulfils its obligations within roadside inspection.
Our ambition is to develop an ever more efficient, targeted and socially beneficial supervision. We must use our resources where they create the greatest value for road safety and competitiveness. This means that we must be particularly attentive to the companies and vehicles where the risk of non-compliance is greatest.
At the same time, companies that have their affairs in order should experience a professional authority where contact and supervision are carried out quickly, efficiently and with the fewest possible administrative burdens. This is a strategic direction we already work towards, and which you will have an important task to continue and develop together with the employees.
About the team
Team Vehicle Inspection Companies and Roadside Inspection has a broad task portfolio with significant importance for road safety. The team’s tasks include among others:
- Supervision of vehicle inspection companies.
- Carrying out almost 6,000 roadside inspections of commercial vehicles annually.
- Development of a vehicle inspection scheme in Greenland and contribution to its subsequent operation.
- Approval of and supervision of providers of education within the vehicle inspection area.
- Roadside inspection of motorcycles.
- Administrative regulatory tasks related to the practical inspections.
- Contributing to the development and interpretation of rules in the area.
The team consists of 19 dedicated and professionally strong employees, all of whom are vehicle inspection inspectors. The employees work from their home addresses and are geographically distributed across Denmark with one employee in Greenland.
This places particular demands on you as a leader. You must be able to create direction, coherence and a sense of community across geographical distances. At the same time we expect you to prioritise getting close to the employees’ everyday lives and task solving, so you have a solid professional basis for your leadership decisions.
As team leader you will be part of the management team in the Department of Road Safety, where you work closely with the department’s two other team leaders and the head of office. You also have an important role in cross-agency collaboration within the Danish Road Traffic Authority, both professionally and strategically.
Your most important task is to ensure operations and continue the strategic development
You take over the leadership of a well-functioning team with a comprehensive operational task and a clear strategic direction. Your task is both to ensure stable operations of high quality and to continue and strengthen the development that has already been started.
We constantly want to become better at our tasks and create the greatest possible value with the resources available to us.
A central element in our strategy is to optimize our risk-based and differentiated supervision. We must in an even greater degree target our efforts at the areas and actors where there is the greatest risk of non-compliance with the rules. Here we must be thorough, consistent and ensure that we address all relevant issues. Conversely, we must organize our efforts so that companies that comply with the rules experience an efficient and professional authority that does not impose unnecessary burdens on them.
This requires that we continuously develop our work processes, become better at using data and exploit the possibilities of digitalization.
The digital transformation will therefore be an important tool in the team’s continued development. As team leader you must be able to see opportunities in new digital solutions, prioritize development efforts and ensure that changes are anchored in daily task solving. You must therefore be able to take the managerial responsibility for identifying new technological possibilities, developing them and implementing them in practice.
You must be able to translate the strategic direction into concrete improvements that make sense for the employees, strengthen the quality of our regulatory work and create value for both society and the companies we supervise.
We therefore emphasise that you have an understanding of change management, can create followers and are eager to drive development in close collaboration with the team’s employees.
Your management tasks
As team leader you are the driving force in the team’s daily life. You are engaged and set direction, create engagement and ensure that strategic ambitions are translated into concrete results. You lead based on the Danish Road Traffic Authority’s values and manage to combine a clear leadership direction with trust, involvement and respect for the employees’ professional expertise.
You must be close to the operation and at the same time have an eye for the long term. This means, among other things, that you must be able to prioritise between daily operational tasks and development activities and ensure that the employees have the right framework to succeed with both. In order to ensure presence in leadership and the possibility to work with operations and their development, you should expect to be out with the employees in their practice and at the Ribe office.
Since the employees work across the country, it is important that you master leadership at a distance without losing closeness to the employees and their tasks. You must be curious about practical task solving, want to come out where the work is performed, and together with the employees work on quality and development of the tasks.
You also play an important role in ensuring a strong collaboration with the other areas within the agency. The team has particularly close collaboration with the teams working with rules for vehicle approval and the rules in the vehicle inspection area. It is essential that you contribute to a strong link between these areas and your own team so that rule development, professional knowledge and practical authority support each other.
Who are you?
We are looking for a leader who can secure efficient operations and has ambitions to develop the team’s tasks, processes and employees.
You must have the desire and ability to understand the tasks and comprehend the reality in which the employees and the companies we supervise operate. It will therefore be a clear advantage if you have industry knowledge and experience with the vehicle inspection area, the vehicle industry or related fields. This will give you a good starting point for quickly understanding the team’s tasks, engaging in the professional dialogue and contributing to the continued strategic development.
We also emphasise that you
- Have experience with or a solid understanding of operations management and can create structure and prioritise in a complex everyday life.
- Have strategic understanding and the ability to translate goals and ambitions into concrete improvements and results.
- Have an eye for opportunities in digitalization, data-based prioritization and efficiency.
- Understand change management and can engage the employees in the development of tasks and workflows.
- Thrives with leadership at a distance and at the same time prioritises being close to the employees’ everyday lives.
- Builds trust through open dialogue, clear expectations and involvement.
- Focuses on employees’ well-being, professional development and a strong sense of community.
- Communicates clearly and professionally, both orally and in writing.
- Has strong collaboration skills and can build good relationships across disciplines and organizational boundaries.
- Wants and can be in close dialogue with the industry and our other external stakeholders.
- Stays calm and keeps overview, even when pace is high.
- Contributes with good humor and a positive approach to collaboration.
- Has a driving license for a passenger car.
You also have political acumen and preferably experience from a politically led organisation. You understand the importance of us as an authority working professionally and credibly in interaction with both internal and external stakeholders. This includes cooperation with the ministry, industry associations, vehicle inspection companies, transport operators and drivers.
We would like you to have a natural interest in the industry and be curious about its development and challenges. You should be able to combine an understanding of the industry’s conditions with the independence and regulatory role that are essential for our work.
